Emissary of the Void

Emissary of the Void, a six-part serial Legends novella, was penned by Greg Keyes. Positioned as the tenth story within the New Jedi Order series, its narrative unfolded across two magazine publications. The initial trio of segments appeared in Star Wars Gamer issues 8 through 10, coinciding with the magazine's discontinuation. Subsequently, the concluding three parts were featured in Star Wars Insider issues 62 through 64. Before the Insider publication of the final chapters, the first three segments were accessible for free on StarWars.com. Later, all six segments were made available to members of Hyperspace. To this day, Emissary of the Void remains the only New Jedi Order story that has not been compiled and released in its entirety in either print or eBook format.

Plot summary

The New Republic and the entire galaxy are experiencing a period of immense difficulty. The Yuuzhan Vong War is ongoing and has entered its second year. The Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, which began at Vector Prime and has spread across the Outer Rim, has resulted in the destruction of entire systems and the loss of trillions of lives. This devastating wave of destruction and death has affected all species.

The Jedi Order provides the only remaining hope for the endangered galaxy, despite the fact that their abilities are being challenged by the Yuuzhan Vong, whose presence cannot be detected through the Force. The Jedi have discovered that these invaders from another galaxy are vulnerable to certain Force-based attacks, which has enabled them to slow down the Yuuzhan Vong's relentless advance.

Tsavong Lah, the Yuuzhan Vong Warmaster, has attempted to counter the Jedi by announcing that he will stop his invasion if all Jedi are captured. This announcement has led to Jedi being hunted throughout the galaxy, either for capture or death, by the Yuuzhan Vong, desperate citizens, or the paramilitary group known as the 'Peace Brigade'.

With the assistance of the Peace Brigade, the Yuuzhan Vong have successfully taken over Yavin 4 and the Jedi Praxeum located there, resulting in the capture or death of many Jedi, with only a few managing to escape the massacre. Anakin and Tahiri manage to escape from their captors, but not without suffering injuries. Anakin is seriously injured, and Tahiri has been "shaped" by the Yuuzhan Vong before their escape.

Following the destruction of the Jedi Praxeum, the remaining Jedi are being hunted by both allies and enemies and have been forced to go into hiding once again. The Yuuzhan Vong's attack now appears unstoppable, and without the Jedi to defend it, the future of the New Republic and the galaxy itself is uncertain.

The narrative, which takes place during the Yuuzhan Vong War, centers on the escapades of Uldir Lochett, a rescue pilot, and Klin-Fa Gi, a hunted Jedi.
