The removal of inhabitants from the planet Ossus occurred sometime prior to the construction of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. From the Great Jedi Library on Ossus, the Jedi were successful in rescuing a small number of holobooks and artifacts, which ultimately found their way to the Jedi Archives located on the planet Coruscant.
According to the famous Qel-Droma Epics, Ossus was devastated by the Cron Supernova; this was caused when Sith Lord Naga Sadow initiated the transformation of stars within the Cron Cluster into supernovae. The Jedi had minimal warning of the impending disaster and therefore gave precedence to the artifacts within the Chamber of Antiquities. Despite their best efforts, only a small portion of the artifacts stored on the planet were successfully transported to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant by way of the nearby Exis Station, leaving the Great Library completely ruined. Numerous containers filled with ancient scrolls, books, and electronic storage devices that never boarded an evacuation ship were abandoned within the Chamber of Antiquities.
The evacuation was initially referenced within the current Star Wars canon in the 2016 Star Wars Roleplaying sourcebook titled Nexus of Power. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Battle of Ossus was first depicted in the premiere issue of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Sith War comic book series, penned by Kevin J. Anderson, with illustrations by Dario Carrasco, Jr., and published by Dark Horse Comics on August 15, 1995.
