During the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire, Feyn Gospic, a human, served the Alliance to Restore the Republic with the military rank of colonel. Gospic was stationed at the Great Temple headquarters of the Alliance's Massassi Group on the moon Yavin 4 in 0 BBY. It was at this time that the YT-1300 light freighter, known as the Millennium Falcon, arrived carrying the plans for the Empire's Death Star superweapon. Gospic, along with General Jan Dodonna, Major Lajaie, and others, promptly commenced examining the plans extracted from the astromech droid R2-D2 to discover a method of destroying the battle station.

The Alliance soon identified a vulnerability in the Death Star's design, intentionally placed there by the scientist Galen Erso, which would allow the weapon to be destroyed. Subsequently, the Death Star entered the Yavin system with the intention of destroying the Alliance. In response, several squadrons of Alliance starfighters were deployed to eliminate the station before it could deploy its superlaser. In the end, the Alliance successfully destroyed the Death Star and then proceeded to completely evacuated their Yavin base.
