Lajaie was a male human who fought for the Alliance Military during the Galactic Civil War against the forces of the Galactic Empire. He began his service as a major in the Alliance to Restore the Republic's Massassi Group, and later became a naval commander and the commanding officer of Beta Group. During the Battle of Mako-Ta, Lajaie met his death when the Executor, Darth Vader's flagship of the Imperial Death Squadron, destroyed his cruiser. Vader was a Dark Lord of the Sith.
During the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire, Lajaie, a male human, was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In 0 BBY, not long before the Battle of Yavin, Lajaie held the military rank of major and was a rebel officer stationed at the Great Temple on Yavin 4. He was present when the Alliance received the schematics for the Empire's planet-killing superweapon, known as the Death Star. Major Lajaie joined General Jan Dodonna, Colonel Feyn Gospic, and others in immediately analyzing the data to formulate a plan to destroy the Death Star. After identifying a vulnerability, Lajaie assisted General Dodonna in briefing the rebel pilots on how to take out the battle station.
Lajaie, alongside other Alliance personnel, monitored the battle, which concluded with Luke Skywalker, a Force-sensitive pilot, successfully firing proton torpedos into the station's thermal exhaust port. This triggered a chain reaction that destroyed the main reactor, leading to the station's destruction and the deaths of almost all Imperials on board, with the exception of Darth Vader. Following the battle, Lajaie attended a ceremony where Skywalker and Han Solo, the captain of the Millennium Falcon, were awarded the Medal of Bravery.
Lajaie, now a naval commander, attended a meeting of Alliance High Command at the Mako-Ta Space Docks after a failed attempt to enlist the Mon Cala Mercantile Fleet through Mon Calamari Regent Dors Urtya on Mon Cala. Chancellor Mon Mothma requested Leia Organa's report on Mon Cala. When Organa stated that Urtya wouldn't rebel against the Empire, Lajaie expressed his disappointment but not surprise, suggesting alternative strategic options if securing a full fleet was impossible. Organa then interrupted, presenting her plan to rescue King Lee-Char to secure an alliance with the Mon Calamari and integrate their fleet into the naval forces.
Eventually, Organa and her team infiltrated a prison on Strokill Prime and located Lee-Char. Unable to move due to injuries, he recorded his final words before Imperial stormtroopers killed him. Although Urtya intercepted the recordings from Organa, he sent the message to the Fleet Captains of the Mon Cala fleet, triggering a mutiny and their defection to the Rebel Alliance.

Following the successful rebellion, Commander Lajaie was placed in command of a cruiser that the Kingdom of Shu-Torun had refitted for battle, under the orders of Queen Trios. Lajaie used this cruiser as the flagship for Beta Group, and he was present at the Mako-Ta Space Docks during a ceremony celebrating the new Alliance Fleet. Rebel personnel and allies gathered to witness the dispersal of the rebel naval forces.
As the ships prepared to enter hyperspace, a malfunction prevented the launch of the Willard's cruiser, along with all other ships upgraded with Shu-Torun technology. This issue caused all launches to fail, communications to be lost, armaments to be disabled, and starfighters to be unable to launch. Simultaneously, Death Squadron, led by the Sith Lord Darth Vader, arrived and immediately attacked the nearest cruiser, Yavin's Hope, the flagship of General Vanden Willard, destroying it.
While the fleet was under attack, Lajaie nearly identified the source of the problem and discovered crucial information for restoring the fleet's systems. However, his cruiser came under attack before its systems could be brought back online. Upon learning that the cruiser's shields were failing and realizing it was too early to restore the vessel to full operational status, he ordered the evacuation of his cruiser.
As he issued the evacuation order, he instructed his crew that, should any survive, they must inform the other rebels that the problems stemmed from bypasses in the hardware sourced from Shu-Torun systems, and that some bypasses might still be functional. As the crew evacuated in escape pods, the cruiser was destroyed in an explosion. Imperial starfighters and turbolasers then targeted the pods, destroying several.
Lajaie's first appearance was as an uncredited Rebel extra in the Yavin 4 scenes of the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which was the first film released in the Star Wars original trilogy. Within Star Wars Legends continuity, the character was given the first name "Evram."
Kieron Gillen, the primary writer for the Star Wars series by Marvel Comics, decided to kill off Lajaie, reflecting on the rapid ascensions of heroes within the narrative.
