A flameout was a type of mixed alcoholic beverage created from a combination of Hull stripper and Vaschean rye. It was possible to serve it in a jet juice container. Furthermore, spice could be added to a flameout to enhance its flavor. According to Qi'ra, a human and the leader of the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate, the flameout originated as an age-old Corellian recipe. This particular drink was one of several alcoholic mixes available at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina on the planet of Tatooine.
During the year 3 ABY, Qi'ra brought a golden bottle of flameout to share when she had a meeting with Leia Organa, who was a general in the Rebel Alliance. However, Organa, who was suspicious of Qi'ra's motives, declined the offer and instead used her blaster to shoot the bottle out of Qi'ra's grasp before she had the chance to pour it. Later, in 4 ABY, flameouts were among the beverages dispensed by the astromech droid R2-D2 while he was temporarily employed as a mobile bartender on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge, the Khetanna.

The flameout's initial mention occurred in the 2017 junior novelization of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi authored by Ryder Windham. Its first visual representation was in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide by Daniel Wallace. The drink made its debut appearance in the eighteenth issue of the 2020 Star Wars comic book series, which was written by Charles Soule, featured illustrations by Ramon Rosanas and Rachelle Rosenberg, and was released by Marvel Comics on November 3, 2021.
