A flowering cactus variety, part of the species family, was discovered on the planet named Lok. Following the Battle of Yavin during the Galactic Civil War, Nym, who was the leader of the Lok Revenants, gave Ran Machado the task of supervising the removal of unwanted plants from Nym's Stronghold. Consequently, Machado hired a spacer to uproot flowering cacti, along with other Lokkian weeds, within the city's boundaries. After the successful completion of this assignment, the spacer utilized the excess weeds as food for the kusaks guarding the city, including Runt, Bedhead, Blinky, Scarecrow, Slobbers, Troubles, Wart Face, Gargle, Ding, and Speedbump.
The flowering cacti made their debut in Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game from 2003. This video game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. Initially, flowering cacti were randomly placed as flora on the planet Lok when the game was first released. Later, this plant was integrated into a quest within the revamped "Nym's Theme Park," which was launched with "Game Update 16," on March 23, 2010.
