The Freedom Fighter, a GR-75 medium transport, fulfilled its duties within the Alliance Fleet of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin, the Freedom Fighter participated in the evacuation of Alliance personnel from the planet's surface, acting as one of several transports involved. As the Galactic Empire initiated an assault on the rebel base, the Freedom Fighter, along with a number of other starships, facilitated the final departure of Alliance personnel.
It was later brought to light that a member of the ship's crew was, in actuality, a spy working for the Empire; after a short period of capture by a Victory-class Star Destroyer, the Freedom Fighter successfully broke free. Captain Darpik held command of the Freedom Fighter. Commander Ares Ginn held the position of the highest-ranking officer from the Alliance Army present on the ship, while Corporal Calle Tharandon served as the vessel's quartermaster.
