The Freetown garrison consisted of volunteer fighters assembled from the settlement of Freetown. They were created amidst the gang war that erupted between the Pyke Syndicate and the Fett gotra.
After Marshall Cobb Vanth encountered a group of Pyke messengers, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin approached Vanth and his deputy Scott. Djarin recalled the fighting prowess of Freetown's inhabitants against the Krayt dragon and requested that Vanth mobilize them into a garrison. This garrison would then assist Daimyo Boba Fett and his Gotra in their conflict with the Pykes. Vanth expressed doubt about the citizens' willingness to aid the Gotra in their battle against the Pykes at Mos Espa. Following Djarin's departure, Vanth contemplated the proposal. However, Cad Bane, acting under the Pykes' command, ambushed and shot Vanth and Scott. Bane declared that Tatooine was under the Pykes' control.
Despite Vanth's incapacitation, the residents of Freetown established a small garrison. Utilizing a landspeeder, the garrison supported Fett, Djarin, Krrsantan, and the Mods in their efforts to repel the Pykes from Mos Espa.
