Taanti was a male Weequay who owned and operated the cantina as a bartender located in Freetown. Following the Battle of Endor, the Mining Collective launched an assault on the cantina, resulting in the deaths of many residents. Cobb Vanth aided Taanti in his escape, and Vanth later liberated the settlement. Years afterward, he served spotchka to Vanth, the town's marshal, as well as Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter seeking Vanth. Taanti, together with the inhabitants of Mos Pelgo, joined Vanth, Djarin, and a local group of Tusken Raiders in an effort to kill a krayt dragon that was attacking their town.
At a later time, he provided a drink to Vanth while Djarin requested the marshal to gather a garrison to support Boba Fett against the Pyke Syndicate. Taanti intervened, stating that the town desired no involvement, considering it a conflict for city dwellers. Shortly after, Vanth requested Taanti to assemble fighting-age men and women for a meeting. Taanti responded that the issue with the Pykes was not their concern. Before the meeting could be arranged, Cad Bane shot Vanth, which then convinced Taanti and the town's garrison to participate in the battle. The assistance from Freetown proved crucial in saving Fett's forces, ultimately leading to their victory and the expulsion of the Syndicate from the planet.
Similar to the other residents of Mos Pelgo, Taanti viewed Tuskens as ruthless adversaries. When Djarin suggested an alliance between the townsfolk and the Tuskens, Taanti exclaimed that they were monsters, even though they ultimately collaborated to eliminate the dragon.
Taanti initially believed that the "city folk fight" occurring in Mos Espa was not the town's responsibility, but he eventually joined the battle to avenge Vanth, who had been shot by Cad Bane.
Taanti made his debut appearance in Chapter 9 of The Mandalorian, where he was played by W. Earl Brown.
