G2-1B7 was a surgical droid of the 2-1B series in the service of Saw Gerrera, the leader of the rebel group known as the Partisans. This droid underwent modifications enabling it to administer drugs to Gerrera at frequencies that would typically be deemed hazardous. It struggled to comprehend how Gerrera remained alive after inhaling near-fatal doses of Geonosian insecticide. Having explored every possible avenue to sustain its master, G2-1B7 replaced a significant portion of Gerrera's body with cybernetic implants, demonstrating resourcefulness in the repurposing of equipment.
In the year 1 BBY, G2-1B7 operated from the Partisans' main base situated on the lunar body Jedha. It was present when Gerrera encountered his former ally, Jyn Erso, not long before their base was obliterated by the Galactic Empire's Death Star superweapon. Both G2-1B7 and the individual it was treating were killed in the explosion.
During the ongoing Galactic Civil War fought between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, the 2-1B surgical droid designated G2-1B7 served as the personal medical assistant to Saw Gerrera, the head of the Partisans rebel faction, remaining by his side at all times. The droid's primary, and difficult, task was to ensure Gerrera's survival, especially considering his prior inhalation of almost lethal quantities of Geonosian insecticide. G2-1B7 tried every available method to treat its master, even going so far as to replace a large part of Gerrera's body with cybernetics to address his severe injuries.

In the years leading up to the pivotal Battle of Yavin, G2-1B7's operational space was a small, poorly equipped medical bay within the Partisans' base located in the Catacombs of Cadera on the moon named Jedha. It was routinely deactivated in order to prevent it from developing an ethical argument against Gerrera's treatment during its downtime, and to conserve power. Gerrera's medical condition was so dire that the droid required extensive modifications to override programming that would normally prevent it from administering the dangerously high doses of medication necessary for Gerrera's functioning.
G2-1B7 provided care to Gerrera and the other Partisans from a diagnostic station. This station included a repurposed flight chair serving as an examination table, a makeshift plethysmograph for assessing lung function, and a computer to monitor the removal of insecticide from Gerrera's respiratory system. The droid also made use of more advanced tools, such as its microscope and cybernetic repair instruments, which it kept in reused ceramic cups.

In 1 BBY, G2-1B7 was present in Gerrera's quarters when he was reunited with his former ward, Jyn Erso. The droid remained still in a corner of the room as Gerrera presented Erso with a holographic recording from her father, Galen Erso. After the message concluded, Erso and many of the Partisans were compelled to escape the catacombs as they were destroyed by the shockwave resulting from a blast from the Empire's Death Star [superweapon](/article/superweapon]. Gerrera, however, chose to remain behind and perished. While no reliable source documented G2-1B7's demise, it is certain that the droid was destroyed alongside its master.
G2-1B7 was a medical droid fitted with a 55VH Vocabulator and interchangeable servogrip pincers designed for handling medical equipment in specific situations. G2-1B7 had alterations allowing it to administer drugs at intervals deemed too hazardous by the inherent programming of a standard 2-1B droid. It also possessed the ability to formulate ethical arguments based on the condition and treatment of its patients.

The droid did everything possible to assist its master, displaying inventiveness in its treatments and the consistent recycling of equipment. Even with the measures taken to prevent G2-1B7 from halting Gerrera's treatment, it could still question the treatment and state of its patient. Within the constraints of droid expression, it was perplexed by Saw Gerrera's continued survival up to his reunion with Jyn Erso. It was generally amazed at his patient's will to survive. The droid took note of Gerrera's resolute determination as they prepared to confront the devastating assault of the Death Star. Like all 2-1B surgical droids, G2-1B7 was manufactured by Industrial Automaton and had a height of 1.77 meters. It featured white, yellow, and silver plating.
G2-1B7's first appearance was in the 2016 Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The droid was not identified by name in the film itself, but it was given a designation in the companion reference book titled Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, authored by Pablo Hidalgo. The 55th edition of the Star Wars Helmet Collection magazine, which was published in 2018, mistakenly refers to G2-1B7 as a "G2 unit" instead of a 2-1B medical droid.
