Fifth Fleet (Galactic Alliance)

The Fifth Fleet, a component of the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet, was led by Bothan Admiral Nek Bwua'tu. Its original mission was to patrol the Hydian Way. This fleet evolved from the earlier New Republic Fifth Battle Group.

During 36 ABY, the Fifth Fleet received orders to travel to the Utegetu Nebula to establish a blockade. The purpose of this blockade was to contain the accumulating Killik fleet, composed of numerous nest ships.

In 40 ABY, the fleet, then under the leadership of Admiral Cheb, participated in the Blockade of Corellia.

The Battle of Kashyyyk resulted in severe losses for the fleet. The Confederation fleet, possessing superior numbers, encircled the Fifth Fleet, inflicting significant damage. Admiral Atoko considered surrendering and destroying the ships to prevent their capture and the loss of life among the crews. However, the Fifth Fleet managed to break through and escape. After its tactical withdrawal from Kashyyyk, the Fifth Fleet went back to Coruscant. Following the Second Battle of Roche, the surviving elements of the Fifth Fleet were deployed to bombard Mandalore.
