Second Battle of Roche

The Second Engagement at Roche commenced as a Jedi Coalition incursion, swiftly spiraling into a large-scale conflict upon the arrival of fleets commanded by both Admirals Natasi Daala and Cha Niathal.

Initial Events

Jaina Solo, accompanied by her parents, journeyed aboard a Hapan Battle Dragon with the intention of informing Luke Skywalker about the capture of his son, Ben. En route, they observed numerous StealthXs, Owool Interceptors, and blastboats manned by former Alliance pilots preparing for a raid. After Leia apprised Luke of Caedus's presence on Nickel One, Luke finally grasped that the Fourth Fleet had been safeguarding all the arms convoys targeted by the Jedi. Despite knowing Caedus would sense his approach, Luke was unable to alter the planned raid, as the Sith Lord would deduce that Luke was utilizing his own visions against him. Prior to departing for Nickel One, Luke instructed the Owools to stand down, asserting that alternative escorts would be present.

The Clash

Upon the arrival of the Jedi strike force, they encountered an assault by Imperial Starhunters. Luke brokered an agreement with Boba Fett for his Mandalorian strike team to serve as their escorts, and the combined contingent advanced to engage the Imperial Star Destroyer Harbinger while Jaina was deployed to Nickel One's surface in a dropsuit. Following an engagement with Starhunters attacking the Blastboat, Jaina landed on the surface as the Coalition strike force annihilated the Harbinger and targeted the command center housing Caedus, aiming to draw his attention. Simultaneously, the Mandalorians dispatched two Tra'kads carrying supercommandos to eliminate the Moff Council within the command bunker. The Blastboat proceeded toward the command bunker, utilizing the Bes'uliik escorts for protection against clustermines. Jaina now understood that Luke had chosen Mandalorians over Owools as escorts because he likely foresaw the escort squadron suffering significant casualties. Only one Tra'kad and ten Bes'uliks remained as she advanced toward the command bunker.

Attack on the Moffs

The Jedi assault team breached the bunker's observation dome, while Jaina demolished a flak gun and rendezvoused with Mirta Gev and her commandos, who were en route to eliminate the Moffs. Jaina accompanied them, drawn by a security camera focused on Caedus in meditation. After a detour to the Verpine resistance network, and despite Jaina's warnings, the Mandalorians launched their attack on the Moffs. Jaina positioned herself in a projection booth, armed with a QuietSnipe rifle, as the commandos initiated their assault with a surprise attack on the Elite Guard protecting the Moffs. Jaina employed the QuietSnipe to support the commandos, periodically eliminating Moffs and stormtroopers with mag-pellets. The surviving troopers eventually turned the tide of the battle, killing three of the commandos. Jaina observed grenades thrown by Mirta alter their trajectory mid-air, signaling her brother's arrival. Caedus began by levitating Mirta and slamming her headfirst into the floor, rendering her unconscious. Jaina was unable to target Caedus due to his Force-enhanced speed, and could only watch as he decimated the remaining Mandalorians, even employing the rare shatterpoint ability to breach Roegr's beskar armor. Ultimately, only Vatok Tawr remained, and after a brief duel, he was impaled through his T-visor by Caedus. Jaina then managed to fire three shots, striking Caedus in the shoulder. After Jaina exhausted the QuietSnipe's ammunition, Caedus manipulated the rifle with the Force, rendering it useless, and lunged into the booth. They both activated their lightsabers and engaged in a duel.

Arrival of Niathal and Daala

Simultaneously, outside the asteroid, Admiral Daala's Maw Irregular Fleet and Cha Niathal, leading her Alliance-in-exile forces, arrived. They immediately engaged the Remnant fleet, which, along with the Fourth fleet, still outnumbered the Coalition forces. Han Solo noticed a frigate that had been pursuing them veer toward Nickel One, moving to regroup with other Remnant forces to bolster the system's defense. Realizing that reaching Jaina would be impossible once the Fourth fleet joined them, Han contacted Jagged Fel and devised a plan to extract Jaina from the command bunker. They began their descent toward the asteroid's surface, once again coming under attack by the frigate.

Jaina vs. Caedus

As the two combatants traded kicks, Caedus realized the extent of his adversary's skill. As Caedus began to push back his opponent, he clearly saw their face: it was that of Luke Skywalker. Caedus, parrying a series of strikes, was bewildered as to how the man he had just sensed high above the planet in a blastboat with his parents could now be confronting him. The battle spilled out of the booth as Caedus was forced to rely on the Force to amplify the strength of his good arm, while the wounded one hung limp at his side. After failing to strike the disguised Jaina with a dart launcher, she lunged at Caedus, hoping to quickly end the fight. However, Caedus managed to hurl Vatok's body into the air, the helmet striking Jaina's forehead and knocking her to the ground. Though she appeared dead for a moment, Jaina swiftly rose and seized her friend's beskad saber; after an exchange of blows, she severed the Sith Lord's arm. Caedus splashed the blood gushing from the open wound onto Jaina's face and neck. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Caedus had marked her with a blood trail that would later lead him to the Jedi base. The duel concluded as Caedus blasted his sister with Force lightning. Caedus once again saw Jaina's face, not Luke's. He was shocked to see his sister and demanded to know Luke's location.

Jedi withdrawal and the battle intensifies

Stormtroopers then entered the chamber, and Caedus ordered them not to fire at Jaina, but at Luke Skywalker, whom he perceived in the corner. Jaina was surprised and confused but seized the opportunity to escape with a Verpine technician, while Caedus was rushed to the infirmary. Jaina escaped with her parents and the remaining Jedi to Shedu Maad.

The Jedi's withdrawal did not end the battle, as the Hapan, Alliance-in-exile, and Maw Irregular forces remained engaged. The Fourth Fleet and two Remnant Fleets were trapped within the system when the Confederation forces arrived, with the Bothan and Corellian fleets boosting the anti-Caedus forces to six fleets. After a week of conflict, Caedus's forces remained locked in combat, but the tide of the battle shifted when Admiral Nek Bwua'tu defeated the Alliance-in-exile forces and trapped the Confederation fleets.

As a consequence of the Mandalorian attack, Caedus dispatched Admiral Atoko and the remnants of the Fifth Fleet to bombard Mandalore, and the Imperials developed a Nanovirus designed to kill Boba Fett and his entire family if they ever set foot on the planet again. Darth Caedus became more convinced than ever that killing Luke Skywalker would bring an end to the war. To locate him, he followed the blood trail he had left on Jaina with a handful of Remnant ships, the Megador and the Anakin Solo, while Bwua'tu defeated the Jedi Coalition fleets. Caedus's task force pursued the Jedi into the Transitory Mists, which would lead to the Battle of Uroro Station.
