Gera was the Mon Calamari daughter Ghal Tarpfen's mother, whose other parent was Rhal. When Tarpfen was a youngling, her mother would often sing a lullaby to her. In 230 BBY, Tarpfen experienced a dream that transported her back to Mon Cala, her homeworld planet. Within this dream, she found herself in an anteroom alongside her former lover, Shenrick, and was addressed using both her name and those of her parents. After being abducted by the Nihil pirates following a failed attempt at blackmail, Tarpfen seized control of the pirates' starship and sent a warning message to the Galactic Republic about Nihil spies infiltrated within the government, all while singing the lullaby her mother used to sing.
Gera's name appeared in the initial installment of "Starlight: Shadows Remain," a short story penned by Justina Ireland as a component of Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. It was featured in the 207th issue of Star Wars Insider magazine on December 14, 2021, as a part of the serialized fiction titled Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight. The subsequent installment, released in Star Wars Insider 208 on January 25, 2022, mentioned Ghal Tarpfen's mother, but without specifying whether it was Gera or Rhal.
