Grox, a Lasat of male gender, captained a pirate crew on a cruiser during the era of the Galactic Civil War. He had a cybernetic replacement for one of his eyes after losing it. The Tech Masters were regular buyers of the scavenged goods that Grox's pirate band sold, paying them handsomely. Sometime following the Battle of Yavin, he crossed paths with Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa while they were aboard the Millennium Falcon searching for the missing medical transport called Nema. Skywalker and Organa responded to a distress signal from the pirate cruiser. As the Millennium Falcon approached, the pirate ship ensnared the YT-1300 light freighter using a clamp and drained its energy. Subsequently, Grox led an assault team onto the Falcon, which included the Nephran Mirack, the Quarren Kragan Gorr, and an assassin droid known as PALLAS-Eleven. Discovering what appeared to be an empty vessel, as the Millennium Falcon's crew was concealed within a hidden compartment, Grox gave the order to take the ship to the planet Trionak, intending to sell it to the Tech Masters.
The junior novel Choose Your Destiny: A Luke & Leia Adventure, released in 2018, marked Grox's initial appearance. This interactive book allows readers to influence the story through choices, with one path considered canon. Although Grox doesn't directly confront Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa in the official narrative, they do meet in alternative storylines. In one such scenario, Grox found Skywalker and Organa hiding in Han Solo's. Threatening them with his bo-rifle, Grox cautioned Skywalker against using his [lightsaber](/article/lightsaber], leading to their capture. In another alternate scenario, Skywalker and Organa directly engaged Grox's pirate crew in combat, only to be swiftly defeated.
