THE VOYAGES OF THE GREATEST OF ALL-STAR CRUISERS! As the celebrated HALCYON begins an important…cruise, the ship is on a course for a confrontation with THE FIRST ORDER! But what secret originating from THE HIGH REPUBLIC ERA can provide assistance to the passengers and crew all these years into the future? And in what manner did JEDI NIBS and BURRY repel a NIHIL attack during one of the vessel's initial journeys?
A Tholothian girl named Cimina, traveling with her grandfather Shorr Komrinn in a launch pod headed for the Halcyon Starcuiser, repeatedly asks if they have arrived, prompting him to threaten sending her back on the next shuttle if she continues. Elsewhere in the pod, two passengers are in conversation, with one woman expressing disbelief that her companion is taking her on a Mid Rim cruise shortly after the First Order's bombing of Tah'Nuhna in their sector. Upon arrival at the Halcyon, they are greeted by D3-O9, a logistic droid assigned to the ship by Cruise Director Lenka Monk. Once aboard, Cimina requests to see the lightsaber training pod, but Shorr objects, leading D3-O9 to mention Shorr's past adventure on the Halcyon. A brief flashback shows a young Shorr with Republic Senator Padmé Amidala, witnessing a battle between Anakin Skywalker and Asajj Ventress on the Halcyon. In the present, an alarm sounds, and Captain Keevan is alerted to a large ship emerging from hyperspace directly in their path. Identifying it as a pirate vessel, they are contacted by Captain Crimson Jack, who reveals that he has intercepted a Resistance transmission to someone on board. He demands the spy be handed over, threatening the ship's destruction and the cancellation of its 275th-anniversary run next month. Cimina becomes frightened, but D3-O9 reassures her, citing the Halcyon's resilience over its two-and-three-quarter centuries. D3-O9 then asks Cimina if she has heard of the ancient warriors known as the Jedi, recalling a relevant past event.
265 years earlier, Jedi Knight Nib Assek and her Wookiee padawan Burryaga Agaburry are meditating on the Halcyon. Burryaga is troubled by memories of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, and Nib instructs him to control his emotions to prevent them from overwhelming him, as his Force sensitivity causes him to intensely feel others' pain. When Burryaga questions their presence on the Halcyon, Nib suggests that the Force has guided them there, and that the Halcyon may be a target for the Nihil. D3-O9 interrupts them, summoning them to the bridge to meet Anzellan engineer Shug Drabor. Captain Kel Dor Gol Ponk informs them of unusual readings from ships beyond a nearby moon, a location without mapped hyperspace routes. Nib confirms with Ponk that the ships appear to have materialized, concluding that the Nihil are present. As the Halcyon attempts to evade, Zeetar, a Talpini Tempest Runner of the Nihil, rallies his forces, explaining that the Halcyon carries valuable passengers and information that they intend to seize. After the Halcyon's thrusters are disabled, Nib realizes that the Nihil are targeting something specific onboard and deduces that it is the ship's hyperspace compass, recognizing the gem at its center as invaluable. Ponk wants the Jedi to send a distress call to Starlight Beacon, but communications are jammed, so Nib and Burryaga resort to using the Force to transmit their distress to the Jedi on Starlight Beacon.
When Zeetar and his Nihil forces breach the ship, Nib instructs Burryaga to pilot his Vector to defend against the other fighters while she confronts the invaders. Zeetar's forces gas the Halcyon guards, and a Thisspiasian is sent through the vents to the bridge. Nib Assek arrives, vowing to protect the passengers and crew. As she engages Zeetar, Shug Drabor motivates the Halcyon forces on the bridge to defend their ship, aiding Nib and repelling the Nihil attackers. Meanwhile, Burryaga battles Nihil starfighters in space, holding his own until overwhelmed by their numbers. Help arrives in the form of Jedi led by Stellan Gios, who received Burryaga's plea, and together they drive back the Nihil ships. Elsewhere on the Halcyon's bridge, the Thisspiasian Nihil emerges from the vents and secures the codes for the Chandrilla Charter Company Shipyards. However, after transmitting the codes to Zeetar, he is killed to prevent his capture. Having acquired what he sought, Zeetar uses his suit's cannons to breach the Halcyon's hull, escaping aboard a Nihil ship. The breach causes chaos, with Halcyon members being sucked into space, but Nib Assek uses the Force to seal the hole before Gol Ponk is lost.
With the Nihil threat neutralized, the Jedi assist the Halcyon and its passengers in recovering. In the present, D3-O9 tells Cimina that the one dead Nihil on the bridge was assumed to be a victim of a Halcyon security officer. When D3-O9 questions how they were to know what was to come, she brushes this off as it’s not a part of the story, and continues on to say that Shug Drabor was grateful to the Jedi for saving his ship and compass, so he built a lightsaber training pod onboard as a token of appreciation. D3-O9 promises to take Cimina to this pod, assuming that they survive the current pirate attack. Meanwhile, pirate Crimson Jack becomes annoyed that the Halcyon is taking too long to respond, and to prove that he isn’t bluffing, he has his ship open fire on the starcruiser.
