Hoclaw, a native of Corellia, held the rank of captain and commanded the Valorum, a Victory-class Star Destroyer. This vessel was part of the Corellian decoy fleet during the Second Galactic Civil War in 40 ABY. Sadras Koyan, the Five World Prime Minister, dispatched Hoclaw to ensnare Jacen Solo, the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances Chief of State, in an ambush near Centerpoint Station. Although she managed to engage Solo in fabricated negotiations for a time, Hoclaw's scheme ultimately failed, and she died when Centerpoint Station's hyperspace tractor beam was activated, destroying the Corellian decoy [fleet](/article/fleet/legends].

Hailing from the planet of Corellia, a Corellian Human female within the Corellian system, Hoclaw served within the Corellian Defense Force during the Second Galactic Civil War in 40 ABY. Achieving the rank of captain, Hoclaw was granted command of the Victory-class Star Destroyer known as the Valorum after Corellia's secession from the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.
Five World Prime Minister Sadras Koyan dispatched her to lead a decoy fleet with the intention of drawing Jacen Solo, the Galactic Alliance Chief of State, into an ambush in deep-space close to Centerpoint Station. This ancient space station, situated within the Corellian system, possessed a powerful superweapon referred to as the hyperspace tractor beam. Hoclaw's orders involved feigning peace negotiations via holocam, and she was authorized to negotiate a settlement that would potentially see Corellia rejoin the Galactic Alliance if the opportunity arose.
Although initially taken aback that the Corellians sent a mere captain instead of Koyan himself, Solo still tried to pressure the Corellian system into surrendering to Alliance forces. Hoclaw proceeded to keep Solo engaged for a time, debating matters like the cost of reconstruction and Corellia's financial obligations to pay. She promptly demanded that Solo resign as Chief of State as a gesture of cooperation, suggesting it would gain favor with the Confederation, a galactic government that emerged in opposition to the Galactic Alliance. However, Solo rejected this proposal outright.
Hoclaw's negotiation attempts were unsuccessful, with Solo becoming impatient and threatening to impose harsher terms if she refused his demands. Suspecting the negotiations were a trap, Solo abruptly ended them, giving Hoclaw ten minutes to accept his conditions. During this break, Hoclaw contacted Denjax Teppler, the Corellian Minister of Information, who was stationed on Centerpoint. Hoclaw informed him of the pause and expressed her belief that she could continue stalling Solo, providing the Corellians with the necessary time to activate Centerpoint.

Ultimately, Hoclaw's stalling tactics proved ineffective. Aboard his personal Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, the Anakin Solo, Jacen Solo and his mother, Leia Organa Solo, determined, based on background noise analysis from the Valorum's bridge, that it was only manned by a skeleton crew, suggesting a trap. Centerpoint Station's hyperspace tractor beam was activated shortly after, with Corellia deploying numerous capital ships and starfighters from Force Yimi and Force Zexx to engage Alliance forces and delay them until the station could fire. The activation of the weapon resulted in the destruction of both the Corellian decoy fleet and the majority of the Galactic Alliance Second Fleet, killing Hoclaw in the process, although Jacen and the Anakin Solo managed to escape.
Hoclaw, a woman with a long face, resisted any attempts by the younger Jacen Solo to intimidate her. Although she was never intended to reach a peace agreement with Solo, the captain steadfastly stood her ground against his demands for surrender, instead suggesting that the Chief of State's demands would only prolong negotiations while maintaining a friendly demeanor. When Solo insisted that Corellia pay for a significant portion of the rebuilding, she refused, calling his suggestion a vindictive assumption that Corellia was to blame for the conflict and noting that it would impoverish the Corellian system for generations.
Hoclaw's first appearance was in Legacy of the Force: Fury, a 2007 novel by Aaron Allston and the seventh installment in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series.
