Hondo Karr was a Human male Mandalorian. He fought alongside Mand'alor Chernan Ordo during the Battle of Botajef. He experienced betrayal during that battle. To survive and expose the traitor, he donned stormtrooper armor and became part of Joker Squad, a unit of the Fel Empire's Army. A decade later, amidst the Second Imperial Civil War, Karr deserted the new Empire at the Battle of Borosk. He then joined the Galactic Alliance Remnant's famous Rogue Squadron, fighting for them until he had the chance to reunite with his former wife and embrace the Mandalorian way of life again, resolving to bring his betrayer to justice.
Hondo Karr fought with Mand'alor Chernan Ordo in the Battle of Botajef in 127 ABY. During that battle, Yaga Auchs, another Mandalorian, betrayed his allies, resulting in the Mand'alor's demise and leaving Karr for dead. Vevec, the father of his wife Tes, discovered him. Karr decided to leave the planet and expose Auchs's treachery. He removed his beskar'gam and put on the armor of a deceased stormtrooper. Vevec was soon killed by advancing troopers, and Karr, pretending to be the last soldier of his unit, was accepted into the 407th Stormtrooper Division.
Karr was shocked by the order to kill fellow stormtroopers during the Battle of Borosk. Despite his feelings, he obeyed the orders he was given. However, the breaking point came after the battle. Darth Maleval, the Sith Lord in charge of the battle, subjected Lieutenant Gil Cassel, Karr's commanding officer, to a brutal test of loyalty: he had to kill his own brother or be executed as a traitor. Gil refused, and the Sith Lord executed both men. Enraged, Karr attacked Maleval with a vibroknife. But Maleval simply brushed Karr aside. Claiming that avenging a traitor made him a traitor, Maleval attacked Karr with his electro-whip. However, Anson Trask, another member of the 407th Division, shot the Quarren Sith Lord in the back. Karr praised Trask's shot and departed. Sergeant Ran Harkas's official report stated that Karr had died in the battle.

Karr abandoned the Empire and became part of Admiral [Gar Stazi]'s Galactic Alliance Remnant. Despite his background, he was made a member of Rogue Squadron. Karr later earned the respect of Andurgo, another Rogue pilot, by taking the blame for a knife fight they were involved in.

At the Battle of Mon Calamari, he commanded an Alliance task force disguised as stormtroopers as part of Admiral [Gar Stazi]'s strategy to hijack the Advanced Star Destroyer Imperious. He later participated in a dangerous mission to smuggle a group of Mon Calamari refugees from Napdu. Although the mission was successful, he was confronted by his former wife, Tes Vevec, who sought revenge, believing Karr had murdered her father. However, Karr managed to disarm her and convince her of his true story. After reuniting with his wife, Karr left Rogue Squadron, put on Mandalorian armor again, which he painted black and gold, the traditional Mandalorian colors for "justice" and "vengeance", and vowed to hunt down Yaga Auchs, who had proclaimed himself the new Mand'alor.
Karr, a Mandalorian and former stormtrooper, possessed a quiet, intense, yet relaxed and humorous personality and a love for vibroknives. His experiences on the battlefield, as well as the deaths of people such as Vevec and Jes Gistang, had caused him to avoid forming attachments to his comrades. Nevertheless, he maintained a personal code of loyalty to those he served with, including his superiors, as well as a dislike for unnecessary cruelty, which led him to attack Darth Maleval when the Sith Lord executed the Cassel brothers.
Entertainment Earth created a Hondo Karr figure, which was revealed at Comic Con International 2008 as part of the Joker Squad action figure 6-pack.
