Subsequently, following the Fifth Fleet's augmentation with the Third Fleet and Fourth Fleet, Task Force Gemstone was integrated with Copperleaf, suggesting that the Intrepid held organizational command over both Task Forces Copperleaf and Gemstone, even though Commodore Mirx was the commander in charge of the combined task force.
The inaugural combat engagement for the Intrepid occurred during Operation Hammerblow, a live-fire exercise designed to inaugurate the newly formed New Republic Fifth Fleet. During the Black Fleet Crisis, this carrier spearheaded the New Republic's forces during the ill-fated Battle of Doornik-319 and the culminating attack on N'zoth, which marked the war's final confrontation.
It is thought that the Intrepid accommodated two complete starfighter wings, encompassing squadrons such as Fighter Red, Fighter Gold, Fighter Black, Interceptor Two, Interceptor Five, and Interceptor Eight.
