IPV-2C Stealth Corvette

The IPV-2C Stealth Corvette represented an experimental vessel crafted by the Galactic Republic and produced by Sienar Design Systems in the era of the Clone Wars. Outfitted with a cloaking device to achieve invisibility, this prototype stealth ship saw action during the Battle of Christophsis under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. A more advanced iteration of the same design, known as the Carrion Spike, was later customized for the personal use of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin.

Description

The IPV-2C Stealth Corvette incorporated a modular hull design and employed twenty-eight cloak projectors. Its armament consisted of two anti-aircraft laser cannon turrets, positioned on the dorsal and ventral aspects, along with four forward-facing proton torpedo launcher. This stealth-capable vessel also featured flares and possessed a pair of sensor rectennas, one located dorsally and the other ventrally.

The considerable cost and complex maintenance associated with the cloaking technology led the Galactic Republic Navy to refrain from ordering further stealth ships.

History

Skywalker's initial assignment involved bypassing the Separatist blockade surrounding the planet to deliver essential supplies to Senator Bail Organa on the surface. However, Skywalker instead utilized the IPV-2C prototype corvette—referred to simply as the stealth ship—to disable Admiral Trench's command ship, the Invincible, during the Battle of Christophsis. Skywalker, accompanied by Clone Commander Blackout, Spark, and the ship's crew, attempted to strike Trench's vessel. Prior to their attack, Admiral Trench discovered that the ship emitted a detectable magnetic signature, indicating it was not entirely invisible. When he launched tracking torpedoes homing in on this signature, Skywalker maneuvered close to the Invincible's bridge, causing the torpedoes to inadvertently destroy Trench's own ship.

Following the Clone Wars, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin adopted a significantly modified version of the IPV-2C Stealth Corvette, inspired by the Republic stealth ship, naming it the Carrion Spike for his personal spacecraft.

In 32 ABY, during the mission to Megalox Beta, the First Order seized control of the Carrion Spike.

By 34 ABY, at battle over a desert planet the Ranc Gang had acquired and subsequently destroyed the Carrion Spike.
