During the Republic Era, Jape, a Force-sensitive individual, served as a Jedi Padawan within the Jedi Order, undergoing his studies at the Jedi Temple situated on the Core Worlds planet of Coruscant. Around 41 BBY, he became the apprentice of a Jedi Master renowned for their knowledge in astrophysics. Jape quickly understood the concepts of astrophysics and developed a strong interest in his Master's scholarly discipline, fostering a strong relationship with his teacher. Obi-Wan Kenobi, a fellow Padawan and friend, often felt a sense of envy towards Jape and his Master, contrasting their close connection with the difficult relationship he had with his own Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.
While on a mission to the Outer Rim world of Lenahra in 41 BBY, Kenobi started to regret going on the mission alone and missed the friendship he had with Jape and his other friends, admitting that he was afraid of losing touch with his colleagues because they were assigned to different Masters. A few days after he got to the planet, Kenobi thought that Jape would probably enjoy studying the planet's asteroid field. By 40 BBY, Jape's training included traveling with his Master to observe remarkable phenomena such as nebulae and black holes in the galaxy. When he wasn't traveling, he spent time in the Grand Orbital Observatory of Coruscant, a building made to watch astronomical events. While at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in 40 BBY, Kenobi remembered the photos Jape had sent him from his trips, thinking that those adventures were more interesting than his boring trips to the Temple's Jedi Archives.
Jape, as a Padawan, maintained friendships with several Jedi. He cultivated a robust professional relationship with his learned Master and found enjoyment in studying astrophysics under their guidance. Despite Kenobi's envy of the close bond between Jape and his Master, he frequently held his friends and the camaraderie they shared in high regard. After journeying to witness unique phenomena in the galaxy, Jape made sure to share photos of his experiences with his friends, Kenobi included.
