Plot summary

Obi-Wan Kenobi was still struggling with the loss of his Jedi colleague and rival, Bruck Chun. Subsequently, the late boy's father and his other son, Vox and Kad Chun correspondingly, arrived at the Jedi Temple to receive a report concerning Bruck's death. Following a difficult hearing, Obi-Wan was consumed with guilt. The following day, the Jedi Council informed Obi-Wan that Vox Chun had requested a formal investigation into Bruck Chun's death. Qui-Gon Jinn, sensing the emotional burden this would place on his Padawan, attempted to lift his spirits by assuring him that truth would prevail.

During the formal proceedings, a contingent of Senators, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Bant Eerin—a victim of the Temple sabotage—were in attendance. Sano Sauro, a close associate of Vox Chun, was also present. Qui-Gon initiated the discussion by asserting that Xanatos and Bruck Chun had conspired to sabotage the Temple. Following this, Bant Eerin spoke, expressing her lingering guilt after grappling with the possibility of her own mortality.

Qui-Gon determined that his Padawan required solitude for contemplation. He journeyed to Centax-2, the location of the sabotaged Jedi starfighters. He aided Tahl in apprehending the perpetrator, Tarrence Chenati, who ultimately managed to escape. At the hearing, Obi-Wan began to unravel, until Qui-Gon presented new evidence. He asserted that Xanatos, being inherently distrustful, likely equipped Bruck with a device to intercept his communications. Upon revealing the device, the Senators reviewed the recordings and rendered their verdict. Obi-Wan was declared innocent and released, but not before encountering Kad Chun. After a brief exchange, Kad attempted to assault Obi-Wan, but his wrist was forcefully twisted. Kad departed, declaring that in his eyes, Obi-Wan remained a murderer.

Years later, Obi-Wan and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, were dispatched on a mission to scrutinize a vessel known as the BioCruiser. After being denied unrestricted access throughout the ship, Obi-Wan threatened to return to Coruscant, thereby unleashing the full authority of the Galactic Senate upon the Cruiser. Upon being directed towards the bridge, they discovered that the individual in command was Kad Chun. Following a brief encounter with Vox and Kad, Anakin began to question the animosity these individuals harbored toward his master. After being granted a tour of the Cruiser, Obi-Wan encountered a figure from his past, Andra. Shortly thereafter, they encountered another acquaintance of Obi-Wan's, Denetrus.

The following day, Den arrived with confidential documents. Shortly after, Vox and Kad discovered that their files had been compromised. They promptly denounced the Jedi and demanded their departure. After summoning their transport, and with no intention of leaving, Obi-Wan and Anakin resolved to delve deeper into the unfolding events. They discovered that the BioCruiser was rigged to explode, and that a corporation called Offworld was responsible.

After informing Kad and Vox, Vox denied any involvement, while Kad had just received an incoming communication indicating that Offworld shipping vessels were surrounding them. Vox asserted that Offworld would handle the situation, but Kad demurred and initiated a discussion about their course of action. After resolving to confront the boarding droids, Obi-Wan engaged them, leaving Anakin and their transport pilot, Garen Muln, to contend with the attacking ships. It was subsequently revealed that the Biocruiser had been sabotaged by the same individual responsible for sabotaging the Jedi starfighters years prior: Tarrence Chenati. After assassinating Vox Chun, he fled the ship. The remaining survivors managed to reach the nearest planet.

Upon landing on the planet, Kad and Obi-Wan exchanged words, during which Kad conceded that he no longer held Obi-Wan accountable.
