Jedi Researcher

A Jedi Researcher represented one of the many specialized roles a Jedi Knight could attain while striving for the rank of Jedi Consular. These individuals operated within the Jedi Order to enhance the Jedi Archives through scholarly pursuits and scientific inquiry. Their skills differed from those of the Jedi Lore Keepers, and Master Sabla-Mandibu defined the Researcher's responsibilities.

Overview

The Researchers were divided into several specialists, each highly skilled in their specific area, which could include biology, archaeology, astronomy, philology, or geology.

Jedi archaeologist

Jedi archaeologists were Researchers who specialized in gathering knowledge about the history of both the galaxy and the Jedi Order. These archaeologists collaborated with the Exploration Corps in the field and were all members of the Academy of Jedi Archaeology. A special division was dedicated to xenoarchaeologists, and the archaeologists were particularly active during the Great Sith War, discovering ancient Sith artifacts in an effort to prevent them from falling into Sith hands.

Jedi astronomer

The study of astronomy held significant importance within the Order, as these Jedi were tasked with plotting routes to concealed Jedi planets, such as Ilum and Ossus. Due to their expertise in locating black holes and quasars, Astronomers were often found traveling throughout the Outer Rim Territories, charting new courses, or within the Temple, updating and maintaining the galaxy holomap displays.

Jedi linguist

Jedi who dedicated themselves to the study of philology, or language, were recognized as linguists. These individuals sought to comprehend the communication methods employed by various species. Master Jorus Trass, a Chief Linguist during the Golden Age of the Old Republic, gained renown for uncovering the secrets of the Tarasin Skintone Language and documenting his findings in a work titled Shades of Meaning.

Jedi biologist

These Researchers, who were experts in biology, analyzed new species data received from the ExplorCorps. Possessing profound insights into the workings of alien flora and fauna, these Jedi were adept at Consitor Sato, a technique achievable through mastery of the Force. Master Bowspritz was a celebrated biologist in the years following the Ruusan Reformation, contributing species data with strong connections to the Force to the guidebook, The Jedi Path.

Jedi geologist

The Jedi Order's geologists were specialists in the field of geology and served in a capacity similar to that of the archaeologists. Collaborating closely with the Agricultural Corps, the geologists assisted in identifying soil minerals that would promote plant growth. In 100 BBY, an extraordinary event occurred when geologist Michael Tandre crash-landed on the Mid Rim planet Orellon II. Tandre taught the native Kentra the principles of the Sword, Plow, and Spirit, establishing a peaceful religion known as the Holy Order of the Je'ulajists.
