The Katarn estate represented the agricultural lands on Sulon that the Katarn family possessed.
It was situated approximately forty kilometers to the west of Baron's Hed. It shared a border with the Danga estate. The local Rebels had a meeting spot to the east, while a stone quarry, from which Morgan obtained materials for his residence, was located twenty kilometers to the north. An old, once-thriving factory was in the vicinity. A vehicle park was situated to the northwest.
Various plants, bushes, and animals populated the area surrounding the estate, including poro poppies and nanthas. Eye-eye snakes and hole balls made their homes and roamed within the undergrowth.
The estate encompassed the Katarn family compound, a solar panel, a minimum of four pumping stations, a substantial irrigation system, a tap tree, and fields of variform bean crops. In a similar fashion to his neighbors, Morgan Katarn had an underground irrigation network constructed beneath his property. This network consisted of tunnels and pipes excavated by droids, which conveyed moisture from the tap trees to areas where it was needed. Droids were responsible for the excavation and upkeep of these tunnels, as some were too narrow for an adult human to navigate. Access points into the tunnels were located at various places, for example, close to the kitchen's back door, or in the vehicle park. One of the access shafts was marked as "main central".
Kyle Katarn, as a youth, would explore and play on the lesser-known paths around the estate. As he matured, the undergrowth became more dense, and the former paths evolved into little more than animal trails. Like other agriculturalists, Morgan utilized droids on his property. However, a BT-16 perimeter security droid was responsible for the death of his wife.
Imperial commandos, under the command of Jerec, razed it to the ground during a raid related to the subjugation of Sulon in 1 BBY. Agro droids working on the farm were shot.
In 5 BBY, Jerec came back to Sulon while searching for the Valley of the Jedi, knowing that Morgan Katarn had created a map to it. Jerec deployed his entire force across Sulon, and his troops pillaged the homestead. Three of his seven Dark Jedi – Sariss, her Epicanthix apprentice Yun, and the Twi'lek Boc Aseca – found the map. They were accompanied by a vehicle containing a half-dozen transports, gravsleds and a mobile command post. After the map was taken to Baron's Hed, the farm was put under the heavy guard of Gamorreans and Grave Tuskens, mercenary Tusken Raiders originating from the planet Tatooine who served as the personal soldiers of the Dark Jedi Maw. Imperial stormtroopers, Commandos and All Terrain Scout Transport also patrolled the farm grounds. Sentries were positioned around the property to prevent intruders and alert a response force.
Kyle Katarn infiltrated the farm and the homestead, and reactivated the family droid WeeGee, from which he found out about the Map and its significance, and resolved to go to Baron's Hed to get the map pieces back. They left via the kitchen's back entrance, and after eliminating Brollo and a Stormtrooper, they opened a nearby hatch that led into the tunnels. After passing the main central shaft, and heading towards the northwest, they were assaulted by war droid 8-13, which WeeGee subdued and decapitated utilizing his heavy-duty arm. Later, they arrived at a hatch near the vehicle park. The discovery of the dead guards apparently caused the troopers, commandos, and mercenaries stationed in the park to rush toward the homestead, which allowed Katarn and WeeGee to escape and commandeer a T-4.
Chaos ensued in Barons Hed and the adjacent Fuel City, resulting in almost all of the forces being redeployed from the farm to other locations. After a pursuit in the Moldy Crow, Kyle correctly surmised that the farm would now be deserted, as it was the least likely place they would anticipate his return. The Crow touched down within the factory ruins, where the pair rested before continuing their mission to find the Valley of the Jedi.
