Leland Chee

Leland Chee, an employee at Lucasfilm, is in charge of the Holocron continuity database, which is a database built using FileMaker. Under the usernames "Tasty Taste" and "Leland Y Chee," he frequently participated in discussions on the old StarWars.com forums. In addition to the Holocron, he also manages two other FileMaker databases: the Indycron continuity database for the Indiana Jones franchise, and the LFLcron, which covers other Lucasfilm properties.

Following The Walt Disney Company's purchase of Lucasfilm, Chee and creative executive Pablo Hidalgo were both given roles within the newly established Lucasfilm Story Group. The group's primary objective was to streamline the Star Wars canon by eliminating the existing hierarchy and establishing a single, unified canon.

Dana Jennings, a writer for StarWars.com, counts Chee as a friend. Chee assisted Jennings in writing an article by pointing out the presence of a Sullustan character in a scene from _Star Wars_: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

The Star Wars Resistance character Lechee was named in honor of Chee. Before Fred Armisen was chosen for the part, he made a temporary recording of Lechee's lines.

Chee is the author of "Joh Blastoh," a Huttese song that shares its melody with the well-known song "Jingle Bells." This song was featured in the 2020 movie The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. The complete song, along with its lyrics, was later made available on the Star Wars YouTube channel.

Chee's explanations of discrepancies

  • In the Star Wars: Dark Empire series, Palpatine informs Luke Skywalker that the Battle of Endor wasn't the first time he had died, and that he began transferring his spirit into clone bodies years before that, when his original body had started to deteriorate due to extensive use of the dark side. However, Chee clarified that Palpatine was being untruthful to Luke about his previous deaths, stating that Palpatine's demise at Endor was indeed his first death, although not his last. Chee further explained that while Palpatine's clone bodies do degrade because of the intense dark-side energy within them, his original body did not experience the same degeneration. He only needed to start regularly switching bodies after his original body was destroyed at Endor. [9]
  • Chee provided an answer to a frequently asked question regarding the number of toes on the feet of Yoda's species. While some sources depicted three and others ambiguously showed five, Chee officially stated in the "Ask Lobot" section of Star Wars Insider 122 that they have four toes: three in the front and one in the back. Continuity Confirmations by Chee

Because George Lucas was regarded as the ultimate authority on continuity (then referred to as G-canon) in Star Wars, any mention by Lucas of a character, name, place, or thing not previously recognized as canonical would eventually achieve that status. This was partly because the item would be included in the Holocron database if it hadn't already appeared in other media or literature.

Following Lucas's interview with Jon Stewart at Celebration V, in which Lucas mentioned the existence of Stewjon and Skywalker wine, Chee confirmed on his Twitter account that both were quickly added to the Holocron.
