Khamarese is a language used by the Khamarill Dobbu Scay. During 34 ABY, Scay engaged in gambling at the Canto Casino and Racetrack, which is located on the Outer Rim Territories planet Cantonica. After briefly looking at the casino's round, floating lugjack slot machines, the inebriated gambler spotted the ball-shaped Resistance astromech droid BB-8 on the casino floor. Mistaking the droid for a slot machine, Scay put a cantocoin into one of the droid's diagnostic slots. BB-8 responded by making a quiet moan, after which the annoyed alien spoke in Khamarese and tapped the droid's body. The gambler then leaned against the droid and burped. Scay then inserted another coin into BB-8, and the droid eventually accumulated a large number of coins inside himself.
The first appearance of Khamarese, though it was not identified at the time, was in the 2017 sequel trilogy movie Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. In the film, the character Dobbu Scay, played by Mark Hamill, spoke the language. The name of the language was given in the November 14, 2019 video titled "Every Language in Star Wars Movies," which was part of the Star Wars By the Numbers series from StarWarsKids.com.
