A male human mercenary named Lang was employed by Morgan Elsbeth as the Captain of the Guard for the Magistrate on the planet Corvus around 9 ABY. Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter, believed Lang had previously served in some military organization. Lang and Elsbeth found themselves at odds with the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, leading Elsbeth to hire Djarin to assassinate Tano. Instead, Djarin and Tano joined forces to defeat them, with Djarin shooting and killing Lang after a brief confrontation while his new ally fought and ultimately triumphed over Elsbeth.
Lang's attire included mismatched armor pieces and a burgundy kama. He possessed both a blaster pistol and a BARM-ST12 scattergun.
"Chapter 13: The Jedi," an episode from season two of The Mandalorian television series, marked Lang's initial appearance. Dave Filoni wrote and directed the episode, which premiered on Disney+ on November 27, 2020. Michael Biehn played Lang, and Mickey Giacomazzi performed the stunt work as a stunt double. Filoni conceived Lang as a skilled gunslinger to challenge the Mandalorian when he was writing the episode's script. Biehn's experience and knowledge of Westerns proved invaluable on set. The actor held a specific view on how Lang would oppose Djarin, influencing the scenes. Biehn considered every aspect of Lang, including the number of times he would discharge his blaster. Filoni felt the episode presented a compelling conflict, pitting Tano and the Mandalorian against the Magistrate and her gunslinger.
