Lar Le'Ung, a Pau'an male, who held the rank of Jedi Master, was a member of the New Jedi Order when the Yuuzhan Vong War began. He was stationed at the Jedi Praxeum located on Yavin 4 in 25 ABY. It was at this location that Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master, brought Prince Finn Galfridian after rescuing him from the Yuuzhan Vong who had subjugated his homeworld of Artorias. Galfridian was then brought to the Praxeum for Jedi training. When the Jedi were asked to assist with the evacuation of the planet Rychel, which faced an attack from the intergalactic invaders, Le'Ung was given the responsibility of leading the New Republic troops in combat against the Yuuzhan Vong.
The Yuuzhan Vong had unleashed two siege creatures, named Tu-Scart and Sgauru. With Galfridian fighting alongside him, Le'Ung commanded the troops in an effort to create a diversion for the creatures, giving Skywalker sufficient time to save the refugees. As the conflict continued, the Republic forces started to lose hope and began retreating to their ships. Le'Ung noticed that Tu-Scart was generating fear. Knowing that the refugees needed more time to escape, he ignited his lightsaber and urged his forces to stand their ground. At that moment, a Yuuzhan Vong warrior ambushed the Pau'an from behind, stabbing him in the chest and throwing the Jedi Master into the open mouth of Tu-Scart.

Lar Le'Ung, a Pau'an who achieved the rank of Jedi Master within the New Jedi Order, was stationed at the Jedi Praxeum on the moon of Yavin 4 during 25 ABY. This was merely months after the Yuuzhan Vong, a species of invaders from another galaxy, commenced their attack on the galaxy. While at the Praxeum, Le'Ung was among the Jedi who oversaw the training of Jedi apprentices such as Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo. Le'Ung was present when Luke Skywalker, a leading Jedi Master, brought Prince Finn Galfridian to the Praxeum. Galfridian was to be trained as a Jedi after the Yuuzhan Vong had subjugated his homeworld of Artorias.
Following an encounter between Galfridian, some fellow apprentices, and a Tuk'ata—an ancient Sith creature—in the jungles of Yavin 4, Le'Ung, Skywalker, and Master Kyp Durron had a discussion about Galfridian's future as a Jedi. However, news of a Yuuzhan Vong assault on the planet Rychel interrupted their conversation, along with a request for the Jedi to assist in the evacuation of the world. Skywalker and Le'Ung departed to lead the mission, bringing Galfridian along, while Durron remained behind to supervise the Praxeum.
While traveling to Rychel, Le'Ung provided the Jedi team with a briefing on the mission's objectives and the current situation from aboard one of the New Republic fleet's Bulwark-class battle cruisers. Le'Ung, the Pau'an, was given command of the Republic troops participating in the operation. His orders were to distract two siege creatures—Sgauru and Tu-Scart—deployed by the Yuuzhan Vong, while Skywalker attempted to rescue and evacuate the planet's prisoners. With Galfridian at his side, Le'Ung led the troops against the coufee-armed Chazrach slave warriors and siege creatures fighting for the Yuuzhan Vong, while T-65XJ X-wing starfighters provided air support, attacking the creatures from above. Tu-Scart managed to shoot down several of the Republic fighters without taking any damage, with one of the downed fighters crashing dangerously close to Le'Ung and his forces.
As Republic fighters crashed around them, Le'Ung's troops began to lose hope, realizing their weapons had little effect on the siege creature, and they began to retreat to their ships. Despite this, the Jedi Master understood that they were fighting more than just the creature; it was also projecting fear. Knowing the refugees needed more time to escape, the Pau'an raised his lightsaber and called on his troops to hold their ground. However, at that precise moment, a Yuuzhan Vong warrior wielding an amphistaff stabbed him from behind. The weapon pierced Le'Ung's chest, and the warrior then hurled the Jedi Master's body into the waiting mouth of Tu-Scart, renewing the fear that gripped the Republic forces.
As the battle raged on, Galfridian picked up Le'Ung's fallen lightsaber and tried once more to rally the Republic troops to continue their assault on the siege creatures. The troops managed to hold off the beasts long enough for Skywalker to fill the evacuation ships with civilians, though many of the natives were left behind. When the evacuation ships departed, Galfridian wanted to go back for Le'Ung, but Skywalker told the young man that the Pau'an was gone. Later, when Galfridian decided to return to his home planet, Skywalker gave the young Jedi Le'Ung's lightsaber, noting that he had used it with compassion.

Lar Le'Ung was a Pau'an male characterized by his pale skin. Master Le'Ung, a Jedi Master, chose to wear traditional Pau'an attire and carry a cane, rather than the customary Jedi robes. Le'Ung, a highly respected figure in the New Jedi Order, played a role in training Jedi apprentices at the Praxeum on Yavin 4. Master Luke Skywalker sought his input to discuss Finn Galfridian's future. During the discussion, the Pau'an expressed his discomfort with the Jedi being viewed as weapons, a sentiment that differed from his contemporary, Kyp Durron. When the Jedi were summoned to aid in the evacuation of Rychel, Le'Ung delivered the mission briefing and was tasked by Skywalker with leading the Republic forces in combat.
Le'Ung, a powerful Jedi, demonstrated proficiency with a lightsaber and in the use of the Force. During the Rychel evacuation, he engaged the Yuuzhan Vong and their war beasts with his orange-bladed lightsaber and possessed the ability to sense the fear emanating from Tu-Scart. However, due to the Yuuzhan Vong's resistance to the Force, Le'Ung was unable to anticipate the impending attack from a Yuuzhan Vong warrior, leading to the Jedi Master's death.
Lar Le'Ung made his initial appearance in the second issue of the Star Wars: Invasion comic series, Refugees, Part 2, which was released in August 2009, initially identified only as "Master Le'Ung." He subsequently appeared in the third issue of the series, Refugees, Part 3, where his first name, "Lar," was revealed. Le'Ung later had a brief appearance in Star Wars: Invasion 0, which compiled and expanded the two online previews for Invasion that had been featured on StarWars.com. All the issues featuring Le'Ung were penned by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Colin Wilson. Taylor named Le'Ung as a tribute to his friend, the Australian comedian and Star Wars enthusiast, Lawrence Leung.
