Sgauru, a creature of bio-engineered origin, was crafted by the Yuuzhan Vong from outside the galaxy during their invasion. As one half of the symbiotic duo known as the Biter and Beater, she was partnered with Tu-Scart.

Resembling an enormous, powerfully built, segmented slug, Sgauru was encased in protective, flat, white chitinous plates. She possessed six short, thick legs and a tail terminating in a pair of pincers. Her oversized, armored white head featured a pair of small, black eyes set flush against its surface. A robust network of neck muscles supported her massive cranium, enabling Sgauru to wield it as a destructive force against enemy structures. This capability earned her the moniker 'bludgeon.' The late Warmaster Tsavong Lah also referred to Sgauru as 'biter.'
Sgauru's mouth was equipped with 48 feeder-tendrils, each extending 4 meters in length, which she employed to consume fallen debris and fleeing adversaries. Her presence was also known to negatively impact populations exposed to her destructive path. Sgauru exhibited a calm demeanor when in proximity to her creators' biotechnology and during interstellar travel. However, contact with the technology of the inhabitants of the galaxy triggered a state of fury, a result of her conditioning by the Yuuzhan Vong.
Upon deployment to a planet, Sgauru was guided from the landing craft and thrust into battle, connected to Tu-Scart's uppermost coil via her tail pincers. While wreaking havoc through urban environments, Sgauru would rear up, using her stout legs to brace against buildings, before smashing her armored head into the structure. The 'Biter' would then utilize her numerous mouth tentacles to draw in the resulting rubble and debris, which were subsequently dissolved by her potent stomach acids.
Roughly 50 standard years prior to the Yuuzhan Vong War, Sgauru and Tu-Scart were brought into existence by a collective of Master Shapers. Sgauru fulfilled the role of the 'Biter,' while Tu-Scart functioned as the 'Beater.' Legend has it that their creation was overseen by the Slayer Yun-Yammka, who also bestowed upon the involved Shapers the knowledge required to conceive such beings.
The Slayer mandated the pair's creation to demolish the monolithic duracrete structures utilized throughout the galaxy, thereby freeing the Warrior caste to engage in more "honorable duties." The 'divine nature' of their conception led to Tu-Scart and Sgauru being held in high regard by the Yuuzhan Vong military.
The "Beater' and the Biter" saw their initial deployment against the New Republic during the Evacuation of Rychel in 25 ABY, followed by their involvement in the Battle of Duro in 26 ABY. During these engagements, Sgauru was tasked with demolishing buildings and also emitted a demoralizing aura of terror and revulsion that affected New Republic troops. Later, scientists and psychologists associated with the Eclipse Project theorized that this aura stemmed from a combination of the undulation of Sgauru's feeder-tendrils and the release of fear-inducing pheromones. The researchers also proposed that the 'Pair' were reserved for only the most critical battles, deployed at the Warmaster's discretion.
During the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar in 29 ABY, Jedi Knight Jacen Solo confronted the 'Biter' and the 'Beater.' However, he utilized the Force to convince the World Brain to turn against its Yuuzhan Vong masters. Given that the World Brain controlled all Yuuzhan Vong war beasts present at the battle, including the 'pair', it directed Sgauru to transport Jacen to Shimrra's Citadel, the location of the Yuuzhan Vong's Supreme Overlord.
Regrettably, this action incited the surrounding Chazrach slaves, who commenced bombarding both warbeasts with razor and thud bugs, and firejelly grenades. Fortunately for the 'Beater and Biter', assistance arrived when the rakamats turned on the Chazrach. This ensuing chaos enabled the Galactic Alliance forces to reclaim the Glitannai Esplanade canyon.
