The Yuuzhan Vong, hailing from beyond the galactic rim, engineered a serpentine monstrosity known as Tu-Scart for use during their invasion. His moniker, translating to 'slithering smasher', was also known as 'Beater'. He formed a symbiotic duo called 'Biter and Beater' alongside Sgauru.
Tu-Scart was unique within his species. This 'Serpentine Crusher' bore a resemblance to an immense, elongated Hutt, his body covered in sleek, ebony scales. His smooth, damp skin was broken only by a bony crest running along his spine, which served as an attachment point for the chitinous Sgauru. Two dark eyes were positioned on either side of his bony skull, and a pair of non-poisonous fangs extended from his mandibles.
While docile around Yuuzhan Vong biotechnology, the 'Serpentine Crusher' displayed extreme aggression when exposed to technology from the galaxy. When deployed onto a planet's surface, it often took eight handlers to guide Tu-Scart off the landing craft before he would begin his destructive rampage. The Beater utilized olfactory organs in his tongue to pinpoint the densest concentrations of enemy targets, instinctively moving in that direction while mentally communicating with Sgauru, similar to the villips. When attacking structures, Tu-Scart would use his bony head as a battering ram, though he preferred to coil his body around the structure and crush it until it collapsed.
A group of Master Shapers created Tu-Scart and Sgauru approximately 50 standard years before the Yuuzhan Vong War. Tu-Scart was designated the 'Beater', while Sgauru was the 'Biter'. Legend states that Yun-Yammka, the Slayer, bestowed upon the Master Shapers the knowledge required to bring these creatures into existence.
The Slayer commanded the creation of the pair to demolish the monolithic duracrete structures used throughout the galaxy, freeing the Warrior caste to focus on more "honorable duties." Due to their 'divine origin', Tu-Scart and Sgauru enjoyed a position of respect within the Yuuzhan Vong military.
The 'Beater and Biter' saw their initial deployment against the New Republic during the Evacuation of Rychel in 25 ABY, and later participated in the Battle of Duro in 26 ABY. During these conflicts, Tu-Scart was used to demolish buildings, and at Rychel, it was also employed to instill fear within the New Republic soldiers. Later, New Republic scientists and psychologists involved with the Eclipse Project theorized that the 'Pair' was only deployed for the most critical battles, under the direct command of the Warmaster, Tsavong Lah.
During the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar in 29 ABY, Jedi Knight Jacen Solo confronted the 'Biter' and the 'Beater'. However, he used the Force to convince the World Brain controlling them to turn against its Yuuzhan Vong masters. As the World Brain controlled all Yuuzhan Vong war beasts present at the battle, including the 'pair', it used Sgauru to transport Jacen to Shimrra's Citadel, the location of the Yuuzhan Vong command.
This action provoked the surrounding Chazrach slaves, who began attacking both warbeasts with razor and thud bugs, along with firejelly grenades. Fortunately for the 'Beater and Biter', the rakamats turned on the Chazrach, offering assistance. This resulting chaos allowed the forces of the Galactic Alliance to reclaim the Glitannai Esplanade canyon.
