Larrim's kiosk

On the Outer Rim planet of Taris, a male Twi'lek named Larrim operated a modest kiosk. This kiosk was situated within an apartment complex largely inhabited by non-humans. Larrim's business primarily involved the sale of essential weapons and related gear. During the Jedi Civil War in 3956 BBY, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, [Revan](/article/revan/legends], a former Sith Lord, encountered Larrim at this kiosk. The Twi'lek was showcasing a costly energy shield at the time.

Description

Located within the South Apartments, a residential complex in the Upper City of Taris, a planet in the Outer Rim, was a small shop. This shop consisted of a simple display stand for products and several nearby plasteel storage containers.

History

The kiosk was owned by Larrim, a Twi'lek merchant.

During the era of the Jedi Civil War, a period marked by the strife between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, a certain Larrim, a male Twi'lek vendor, was the proprietor of a small retail location. This kiosk primarily served the non-human population, who were relegated to residing illegally in the Upper City of Taris due to the city-world's discriminatory speciesist policies. Larrim's inventory included weapons such as various blasters, melee weapons, mines, and grenades. Additionally, the kiosk provided other fundamental equipment like armor, stimulants, and medpacs. Larrim also stocked a single, high-end personal energy shield, which was capable of stopping energy-based attacks, such as those from blasters or lightsabers, but not those from ion blasters.

In the year 3956 BBY, a battle over Taris unfolded between a Sith fleet and the Republic's Hammerhead-class cruiser, the Endar Spire. Before the cruiser met its end, a number of escape pods were deployed, one of which carried Bastila Shan, a Jedi Padawan whose battle meditation ability was crucial to the Republic's war efforts. Darth Malak, the Dark Lord of the Sith, in his quest to locate and capture Shan, commanded that Taris be occupied and placed under quarantine, prohibiting any ships from either landing on or departing from the planet. This quarantine had a detrimental impact on many businesses on Taris, leaving numerous off-worlders stranded.

Some days later, Revan, a survivor of the battle and former Sith Lord whose memories had been lost and replaced with those of a loyal Republic soldier, happened upon Larrim's kiosk. Larrim approached Revan, who had been sheltering in a nearby abandoned apartment, and introduced themselves. The Twi'lek promoted their store and mentioned the energy shield they had for sale, alluding to its rumored Echani origins and its capacity to protect the wearer from energy-based attacks. Revan inquired about the kiosk, and Larrim described their business and elaborated on the situation of non-humans in the Upper City. Larrim was hesitant to answer too many questions, fearing it might erode the trust of their clientele. Instead, they directed Revan to Kadir, the building's janitor, who was known for being harmless and somewhat senile, suggesting he could be asked questions without raising suspicion.

Growing impatient with the time it was taking to find Shan, Darth Malak ultimately ordered the orbital bombardment of the entire planet, destroying a significant portion of the Upper City.

Behind the scenes

The kiosk made its debut appearance in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was developed by BioWare. Should the player character pass by the kiosk, the non-player character Larrim will initiate an unavoidable conversation, where none of the available dialogue options influence the plot, quests, or player alignment. During this interaction, if Carth Onasi, a Republic soldier, is part of the player's party, he will remark on the ineffectiveness of the personal energy shield against melee weapons, which prompted the Republic to train its soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. If the player approaches the kiosk and speaks to Larrim while equipped with Sith trooper armor, they will be unable to buy or sell items. Instead, Larrim will insist that they do not want to cause trouble with the Sith and will wish Revan a good day.
