Maldo Kreis

Maldo Kreis was a frigid planet composed of ice, situated within the Outer Rim Territories. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Djarin experienced a crash-landing on Maldo Kreis, his ship damaged after being pursued by a pair of New Republic pilots. While occupied with repairs to his craft, he faced an assault from knobby white ice spiders, but the pilots of the New Republic came to his aid, ultimately departing and leaving the Mandalorian with his damaged vessel. Consequently, Djarin left the planet, continuing towards his intended destination.

Description

This planet, Maldo Kreis, was a terrestrial world covered in ice, characterized by vast canyons containing subterranean caves that served as nests for knobby white ice spiders, and also featured hot water springs. Maldo Kreis possessed a breathable atmosphere and a severely cold climate. When observed from space, Maldo Kreis exhibited a light blue coloration on its surface.

History

The Razor Crest is pursued by New Republic X-wings at Maldo Kreis

In the year 9 ABY, while transporting "Frog Lady" along with her unfertilized eggs towards the estuary moon known as Trask, Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter, was forced to evade two T-65B X-wing starfighters belonging to the New Republic, leading to a crash landing on Maldo Kreis. As he worked to repair the Razor Crest, the group found themselves under attack from a horde of ice spiders. These creatures invaded the ship, compelling Djarin, "Frog Lady," and Grogu to seek refuge by sealing themselves within the cockpit. Ultimately, the two New Republic pilots, Carson Teva and Trapper Wolf, arrived to offer assistance. These pilots aided Djarin in fending off the spiders and, choosing to show leniency, allowed him to proceed on his journey to Trask aboard his damaged spacecraft.

Locations

Behind the scenes

Pagodon, formerly misidentified as Maldo Kreis

The initial appearance of Maldo Kreis occurred in "Chapter 10: The Passenger," which served as the second episode of the second season of The Mandalorian, a live-action series created by Jon Favreau and released on Disney+. The episode was broadcast on November 6, 2020. Prior to the episode's debut, footage showcasing the planet was included in a trailer released on September 15 of the same year.

A planet that was later identified as Pagodon was initially misidentified as Maldo Kreis. This error occurred during an interview in the American Cinematographer magazine with Jon Favreau, the showrunner, alongside Baz Idoine and Greig Fraser, the series' cinematographers.

Star Wars: Timelines characterizes the planet as "an ice moon," despite the fact that several other sources have referred to it as a planet.
