Serving the New Republic as both a pilot and officer, Trapper Wolf was a male human. As the leader of an attack squadron, he piloted a T-65B X-wing starfighter, flying alongside fellow pilots Sash Ketter and Jib Dodger. Around 9 ABY, the three discovered a signal originating from a tracking beacon that was initially activated during the Bothan-Five incident, which involved a mercenary assault on a New Republic Correctional Transport. Wolf and his wingmen pinpointed the beacon's signal to a space station operated by the criminal Ranzar Malk. Spotting a gunship preparing for launch as they approached the space station, the trio launched an attack in their respective starfighters.
At a later time, Wolf and Captain Carson Teva encountered the gunship Razor Crest during a routine patrol; the ship was not emitting a transponder signal. After the starship's pilot, the Mandalorian Din Djarin, sent a ping, Wolf and Teva had a private discussion. During this discussion, Wolf connected the Mandalorian to the prisoner escape during the Bothan-Five incident. Djarin attempted to evade the New Republic pilots, ultimately disappearing into the canyons of the planet Maldo Kreis. Subsequently, the two pilots examined records pertaining to the Crest, uncovering evidence of Djarin's selfless actions. Soon after, the pair rescued the gunship from a swarm of knobby white ice spiders and allowed the Mandalorian to depart.
Having previously served in the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Trapper Wolf became a pilot within the New Republic Starfighter Corps during the time of the New Republic, piloting a T-65B X-wing starfighter. By the time of 9 ABY, Wolf had gained respect as a member and leader within the New Republic attack squadron known as the Adelphi Rangers. The squadron's mission was to patrol the distant reaches of the galaxy, with Wolf frequently flying alongside his fellow Adelphi pilots Jib Dodger and Sash Ketter. Their responsibilities included locating active New Republic tracking beacons. One such beacon had been activated aboard the Bothan-5, a New Republic Correctional Transport, during a raid conducted by a group of mercenaries. However, before any attack squadron could reach the vessel, the beacon was moved off the starship aboard the gunship Razor Crest and taken to the Roost, a space station under the control of the criminal Ranzar Malk.

Flying T-65B X-wing starfighters, Wolf and his squadron emerged from hyperspace near the station. As they flew past the Razor Crest, which had just departed the station, Wolf verified that the beacon's signal was indeed coming from within the station. He then observed another gunship preparing to launch from the station, apparently intending to destroy the Razor Crest. The New Republic pilots interpreted this as a reason to initiate an attack. Opening fire with their [laser cannons](/article/laser_cannon], the trio destroyed the gunship within the station's hangar before circling back to attack the exterior of the station itself, ultimately destroying the Roost.

At a later point, Wolf and his fellow pilot Captain Carson Teva were patrolling the Arkanis sector of the Outer Rim's in search of Imperial remnants when they came across Razor Crest, which was not transmitting a transponder signal, close to the planet Maldo Kreis. The pair positioned themselves on either side of the gunship while Teva attempted to contact the vessel via a comm channel. The Crest's pilot, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, responded, and Teva inquired about the absence of a transponder signal. After Djarin and the captain clarified the need to run a beacon, Teva requested the Mandalorian to send a ping, which he eventually did. Upon receiving the ping, Wolf realized that Djarin's ship was connected to the raid on Bothan-Five, and he contacted Teva to discuss the matter on channel two.
After discussing the Razor Crest's potential involvement in the Bothan-Five heist, the New Republic pilots deployed their X-wing starfighter's s-foils, and Teva asked Djarin if his ship had been in proximity to Bothan-Five. Djarin then attempted to escape from the pair aboard the Crest, heading towards Maldo Kreis. Wolf was the first to acknowledge this, and Teva moved to pursue the Mandalorian. The two followed Djarin through the planet's atmosphere, with Wolf questioning the Razor Crest's destination. The pair then followed the gunship through a canyon, but lost sight of Djarin's ship. Teva instructed Wolf to head north to cover more ground.

Wolf and Teva investigated the Razor Crest, discovering that Djarin was wanted for his involvement in the raid on Bothan-Five. They also learned from Bothan-Five's security records that the Mandalorian had assisted in capturing three other mercenaries involved, and had also attempted to save the life of Lieutenant Lant Davan of the New Republic Correctional Corps. The pair eventually located the Razor Crest damaged and surrounded by knobby white ice spiders within a cave beneath the surface of Maldo Kreis. Wolf and Teva fired on the creatures with their X-wings before landing and engaging the smaller ones from their cockpits using A280 blaster rifles.
Djarin emerged from his damaged gunship, and Teva explained what he and Wolf had learned about the Mandalorian, revealing that they were allowing him to leave. When Djarin requested assistance in repairing the Crest's hull, Wolf looked to the captain, who instead suggested the Mandalorian repair his transponder so that the two New Republic pilots would not be forced to destroy him during their next patrol. The pair returned to their cockpits and departed the cave in their X-wings.
Later, Wolf was present at Adelphi Base, conversing with Dodger and Ketter, while Teva received a message from Greef Karga requesting assistance in dealing with pirates on Nevarro.
Trapper Wolf was a human male characterized by his fair skin, black hair, and brown eyes. Following the discovery of Din Djarin's selfless actions aboard Bothan-Five, he and Carson Teva made the decision to let the Mandalorian go free. When Djarin asked for help fixing the Razor Crest's hull, Wolf looked to Teva for guidance on how to respond to the Mandalorian's request.
Wolf was seen wearing an orange and white flight suit. During his squadron's assault on Ranzar Malk's space station, he donned a white K-22995 light flight helmet adorned with blue and yellow markings and two New Republic roundels. Later, during his pursuit of the Razor Crest, he adopted a gray helmet featuring black and yellow markings and bearing the emblem of the Wolfpack. Wolf was also proficient with an A280 blaster rifle. When not on duty, Wolf wore a hat and a leather jacket, which was embellished with his command insignia featuring five blue pips.
Trapper Wolf made his first appearance in "Chapter 6: The Prisoner" of Jon Favreau's Disney+ television series The Mandalorian, which was directed by Rick Famuyiwa and aired on December 13 2019. The pilot was played by producer Dave Filoni, who made his cameo appearance alongside fellow series directors Famuyiwa and Deborah Chow, who played the other two New Republic pilots. The character's name is the same as the real world animal, the wolf, of which Filoni is a fan. Filoni hinted at his role in the show before the episode's air date in an interview with Andi Gutierrez hosted on the official Star Wars YouTube channel.
Filoni portrayed Wolf at Favreau's suggestion, marking his debut acting role. Famuyiwa and Chow were also cast as the other pilots, as Filoni felt uncomfortable acting alone. The idea began as a joke that Favreau liked. The three directors messaged each other about the shoot during the prior week, questioning their decisions to participate, but Favreau was reluctant to let them back out.
Before filming the "X-wing pilot shoot," Filoni did second unit shooting for Famuyiwa's "Chapter 2: The Child" that same day filming the sequence at the mudhorn cave, where the prospect of filming as an X-wing pilot loomed over the producer. He considered using a scheduled flight he had as an excuse, but was convinced otherwise by Favreau and felt he could learn from having an acting role. When the shooting took place, Favreau gave Filoni the character's dialogue during filming, and told him to "be boring" and act disinterested in order to relate with the calm impressions given by pilots in the real world or in films like Apocalypse Now.
In filming the scene, Filoni and the other two directors were filmed inside the T-70 X-wing starfighter built for the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park in Orlando, USA. The life-size X-wing model was altered to allow the trio to sit inside for their shots. The X-wing was elevated on a platform to recreate the turbulence on the starfighter. The final cut of Filoni's shots were made to look like the scenes of the X-wing pilots in their cockpits in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. When talking about the "X-wing pilot shoot" on Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, Filoni acknowledged that he had indeed gained insight in preparing for and being filmed.
Filoni would later be seen in the second and third seasons of the show. In the third season he wore a hat, which was different than his trademark hat, and was specifically brought in for his scene. He could also be seen wearing a flight jacket with a five blue-doted rank plaque.
