Mudhorn cave

The mudhorn cave existed on the desolate planet of Arvala-7, a desert world. A large, horned mudhorn made its home inside the cave, along with its egg. The interior of the cave was characterized by its cool, dark, and muddy environment, striated walls, and bones scattered across the ground. In 9 ABY, Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, was escorted to this cave by a tribe of Jawas to obtain the mudhorn's egg. After entering the cave, Djarin was promptly thrown out by the mudhorn, initiating a battle. With the assistance of a Force-sensitive child, Djarin ultimately killed the creature, successfully retrieving the egg and delivering it to the Jawas.

Sometime after 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography from the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, journeyed to Arvala-7 to conduct research on mudhorns. She documented her observations and illustrations of the mudhorn within the cave and its surroundings in her journal, which included several drawings.

Behind the scenes

Appearance and conception

Concept art of the cave by Jama Jurabaev

The debut of the mudhorn cave occurred in "Chapter 2: The Child," the second episode of the live-action series The Mandalorian on Disney+, created by Jon Favreau. This episode was broadcast on November 15, 2019. The location's designation was established in Star Wars: The Mandalorian Handbook, a reference book by Matt Jones published in 2021. According to the episode's audio description, the cave's construction suggests it was artificial. Filming for the episode took place between November 30 and December 13, 2018.

Christian Alzmann, John Park, and Jama Jurabaev were the artists who created the cave's concept art. Dave Lowery, Phillip Norwood, and David Duncan developed the storyboards. Dave Filoni, the series director who filmed Djarin's entrance into the cave, mentioned that an initial design included a tree atop the cave entrance, which was later removed in the final version. The scene, however, remained true to the original storyboards, as Famuyiwa was in complete agreement with Filoni's vision.

Video game appearances

The cave was incorporated into the video game Minecraft Star Wars on November 16, 2020, as part of the Minecraft Star Wars expansion, specifically within the Arvala-7 section of the map. Players have the opportunity to battle a mudhorn inside the cave and claim its egg.

The mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes featured the location on December 16, 2020, as part of a Hero's Journey event centered around Din Djarin wearing his full beskar armor. The cave is featured in the second level, where players control Djarin to defeat the mudhorn outside.
