A male human being named Jib Dodger served as a pilot for the New Republic. He was among the group of three pilots dispatched to pursue a tracker that Lant Davan, a member of the crew on a New Republic [prison](/article/prison] transport, had activated. This activation occurred when a group of mercenaries stormed the ship with the goal of freeing the prisoner Qin.
The team of mercenaries double-crossed the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter also known as Din Djarin. However, the Mandalorian managed to escape, single-handedly rescuing Qin and returning him to the space station used by the mercenaries. Unbeknownst to them, Din had planted the tracker on Qin, allowing the New Republic pilots to follow it and launch an attack on the station.
Jib Dodger, a celebrated figure from the Alliance to Restore the Republic, became a pilot within the New Republic Starfighter Corps following the Battle of Endor. In the year 9 ABY, Dodger became a part of a flight squadron that included starfighter pilots Sash Ketter and Trapper Wolf. Their responsibilities to the New Republic encompassed responding to and locating active Republic tracking beacons. One such beacon was triggered on a New Republic prison ship during an assault by a band of mercenaries attempting to liberate a Twi'lek prisoner known as Qin. However, before the New Republic could deploy a squadron to address the beacon, a bounty hunter known as "The Mandalorian" moved the beacon onto his personal gunship, the Razor Crest, and left it on a space station under the control of a criminal named Ranzar Malk.

Dodger and his squadron, flying T-65B X-wing starfighters, emerged from hyperspace to find the criminal's station just as Din was leaving the system. As their X-wings flew past the Razor Crest, Wolf verified that the tracking beacon originated from the station, a fact that Dodger confirmed. As they approached the station, Wolf observed that the station's crew was preparing to launch a gunship, which Ranzar Malk intended to use to destroy the Razor Crest. The three pilots interpreted this launch as an aggressive act and used it as justification to attack the station. Assuming attack positions, the X-wings unleashed their laser cannons, obliterating the gunship inside the station's hangar bay, before circling back to continue their assault on the station's exterior.
Later, Dodger was present at Adelphi Base, relaxing with Wolf and Ketter as they drank spotchka.
Dodger was equipped with an orange and white flight suit alongside a white K-22995 light flight helmet adorned with blue and yellow markings and two New Republic roundels. He also wore a brown jacket.
Jib Dodger made his debut in Chapter 6 of the 2019 television show The Mandalorian, which was broadcast on December 13, 2019. He was played by Rick Famuyiwa, who also directed the episode.
According to Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, the name Jib Dodger was inspired by the jib filming equipment and Famuyiwa's enthusiasm for baseball and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
