A Jedi, belonging to the Jedi Order, existed in the era preceding the Mandalorian Wars. This Jedi served as the mentor to the Jedi Knight Meetra Surik, providing instruction on the world of Dantooine, the location of a Jedi Enclave. When Surik clashed with Vrook Lamar's's Padawan, the Master chose not to intervene. Surik eventually abandoned her Master's teachings and defied the Jedi Council by participating in the Mandalorian Wars, which was the Galactic Republic's war against the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders.

During the Mandalorian Wars era, a Jedi trained Meetra Surik as their Padawan on Dantooine, a planet that housed a Jedi Enclave. Following a significant disagreement between Surik and the Padawan of Jedi Master Vrook Lamar, Lamar approached Surik's Master, requesting that she be disciplined for her actions. The Master declined, which led Lamar to seek out Master Vandar Tokare to discipline Surik, who also refused, stating that the matter was not Lamar's concern. Ultimately, Surik departed from her Master's instruction and opposed the Jedi High Council by siding with the Jedi Knights Revan's and Malak's faction of Jedi in the Mandalorian Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders.
During the Dark Wars period of 3951 BBY, Surik—in her efforts to locate and reunite the Jedi Masters who had survived the Sith Triumvirate's campaign against what remained of the Jedi Order—discovered and repaired a battered protocol droid near the Khoonda outpost on Dantooine after exiting her starship, the Ebon Hawk. The droid then played a holorecording depicting a conversation between Jedi Masters Lamar and Vandar Tokare concerning the dispute between the former's Padawan and Surik, and the lack of disciplinary action from Surik's Master.
This Jedi was initially referenced in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment. If the player, known as the Exile within the game, fixed a battered protocol droid outside of Khoonda on Dantooine, the droid would display a holorecording of a conversation between Vrook Lamar and Vandar Tokare regarding the protagonist. This dialogue mentions the character's Jedi Master. According to the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide, the Exile had multiple informal instructors prior to the Mandalorian Wars, including Kavar and Vima Sunrider. The novel The Old Republic: Revan confirmed Meetra Surik, the protagonist of The Sith Lords, as the name of the Jedi Master's Padawan.
