During the final years of the Galactic Republic, there existed a Togorian female named Mebara Jos. She possessed Force-sensitivity, which led to her being ostracized by her own kind. Consequently, Jos departed from her people and sought admission into the Almas Academy, a Jedi academy situated within the Cularin system. However, the Jedi denied her entry. Embittered, she left the system and vowed revenge. Jos then established the Fireclaw Horde, a Togorian criminal organization. Two decades after her rejection, she returned to the Cularin system, intent on exacting vengeance upon its inhabitants. Her initial terrorist attempts, including a plot to seize the carbonite-frozen Jedi Ji-Ad Sarain and a raid on the Queen of Cularin, a luxury liner, ended in failure. Desperate, Jos devised a plan to attack the Cularin Classic, a swoop race held on the planet Cularin. During the race, she used a jammer to sabotage a speeder bike belonging to Team SoroSuub, one of the competitors, causing it to veer toward the crowd. However, a group of freelance agents intervened, preventing the catastrophe. Enraged, Jos attacked them with the dark side of the Force, but they ultimately triumphed over her.
Born during the decline of the Galactic Republic was Mebara Jos, a Togorian female who possessed sensitivity to the Force. This Force-sensitivity led to her being shunned by the majority of Togorians, who held a deep distrust for those of their species with such abilities. As a result, Jos abandoned her people and journeyed to Almas, a planet within the Cularin system. Her intention was to enroll in the Almas Academy, a Jedi academy located there. However, after an altercation with another aspiring Jedi, the academy's admissions team denied her application. Taking this rejection poorly, she retaliated by attacking some of the other candidates.
Jos departed the Cularin system and vanished, vowing vengeance against both the Togorians and the Almas Academy. Over the subsequent two decades, her animosity expanded to encompass the entire populations of the Cularin system and Togoria, the Togorian homeworld. She began to harness the dark side of the Force, honing her skills in various Force powers. At some point, she established the Fireclaw Horde, a criminal organization composed entirely of Togorians. However, this gang experienced failure in almost every endeavor they undertook.
Around 20 BBY, during the time of the Clone Wars, Jos made her return to the Cularin system, driven by a desire to inflict punishment upon its inhabitants. The Fireclaw Horde established their base in the deserted city of Nub Saar on Genarius, the third planet in the system. Jos orchestrated a plan for the Horde to assist the slaver Gomalo in retrieving the carbonite-frozen Jedi Knight Ji-Ad Sarain. However, the Heroes of Cularin, a group of freelance agents operating within the Cularin system, thwarted this mission, preventing the Horde from acquiring the Jedi. Jos then launched another operation aimed at revenge, plotting to destroy the luxury liner Queen of Cularin. The Fireclaw Horde dispatched a Citadel-class cruiser and some MMR-9 droids to attack the liner. The Heroes of Cularin intervened once again, defeating the raiders and disrupting Jos's plans for a second time.
Following these setbacks, Jos formulated a new strategy for vengeance, focusing on an attack against the Cularin Classic swoop racing event. This race was scheduled to occur at the Cularin Repulsor Speedway stadium on the planet Cularin, and was anticipated to receive extensive media coverage. Jos believed that a violent assault on the competition would serve as a significant blow against the citizens of the Cularin system. Using information obtained from a SoroSuub Corporation office in the Cularin city of Gadrin, she planned to use a jammer to sabotage the controls of an XB-01 Speeder Bike being used by Team SoroSuub, one of the participating teams, causing it to crash into the crowd. Because her previous operations had given Togorians too much exposure in the system, she had some of her Horde minions disguise themselves as Duckonians, a made-up sentient species, and she entered a team of "Duckonians" in the race. She also began researching the other teams that were competing.
The Talons swoop gang, who were also participating in the race, hired the Twi'lek investigator Di'hal'uma to investigate its rival teams, and she soon deduced that the Duckonian team consisted of members of the Fireclaw Horde. Jos learned of the Twi'lek's investigation, and, via an intermediary called Jax, she hired a group of Corellian thugs and the Blood Raptors swoop gang, ordering the Raptors to attempt to capture Di'hal'uma while the thugs created a distraction.
The race went ahead as planned, and during the event, Jos activated a jamming device when the SoroSuub bike was aimed at the crowd. The machine disrupted all communications in the vicinity of the stadium, except for a media feed that was being broadcast to the rest of the Cularin system, and, while the vehicle hurtled toward the spectators, Jos's image appeared on the stadium's viewscreens. She spoke to the crowd and then disabled a deflector shield that was protecting them, while some of her minions simultaneously launched an attack against the onlookers. However, the Heroes of Cularin were able to prevent the bike from hitting the crowd, driving Jos into a rage. She tapped into the dark side of the Force, using it to increase her fighting spirit and enhance her abilities, before attacking the agents. However, they eventually defeated Jos and her minions.
Those responsible for admissions at the Almas Academy determined that Jos possessed an excess of anger and that her primary motivation for seeking training at the academy was rooted in rage. This rejection, combined with the earlier rejection by her own people, fostered a deep sense of frustration within Jos. This, in turn, led to the development of a profound hatred for both Togoria and the Cularin system. The failures of her earlier schemes, such as the attempts to recover Ji-Ad Sarain and attack the Queen of Cularin, only intensified her animosity towards the people of the Cularin system. Her attack on the Cularin Classic was ultimately an act of desperation, born from a belief that it was her last opportunity for revenge. She hoped that the resulting destruction would be broadcast throughout the system, maximizing the impact of her actions. Her goal was to inflict as much chaos and terror as possible, killing and injuring a large number of people, believing this would provide her with the best chance of escape.
Jos underwent self-training to develop various Force powers, encompassing both the control and alter aspects of the Force. She possessed knowledge of the battlemind ability, allowing her to enhance her focus, and the Enhance Ability skill, which increased her physical strength. Additionally, she knew the Drain Energy power, enabling her to resist attacks from energy weapons. Like all Togorians, Jos possessed superior low-light vision, allowing her to see twice as far in dim conditions compared to most other sentient beings.
Mebara Jos was a creation of Nathanael Christen and made her debut in Cloak and Vibroblade, a roleplaying adventure that was part of the Living Force campaign. Later, she was featured in the 2008 publication, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. In Cloak and Vibroblade, the actions of the player characters, who assume the roles of the Heroes of Cularin, can influence Jos's decisions. If the players fail to prevent the Blood Raptors from capturing Di'hal'uma, Jos meets with the Raptors on the outskirts of the Cularin jungle, where the Twi'lek is handed over to her. Later in the adventure, the player characters have the opportunity to prevent the SoroSuub speeder bike from crashing into the crowd at the Cularin Classic. If they succeed, Jos attacks them using the dark side of the Force. Jos's entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia confirms that the Heroes of Cularin did indeed prevent the crash, solidifying the Togorian's attack on them as the canonical outcome within Star Wars Legends continuity.
