Melitto Sap Cake


Melitto Sap Cakes, a vegetarian cake with a dark topping, were conceived by Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs. This creation occurred after his journey to the Inner Rim world of Li-Toran during a culinary exploration of the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. The dish was crafted using the sweet and sticky sap from Li-Toran's bleeding rock organism, a favorite of the native Melitto species. This sap was used to sweeten individual brown cornbreads, which were then presented in dark brown casings. Tuggs later expressed that the cakes left him speechless when he included the recipe in his cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, released in 35 ABY.

Behind the scenes

The recipe for Melitto Sap Cakes was developed for the 2023 publication, Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe ingredients for these cakes include all-purpose flour, yellow cornmeal, granulated sugar, baking powder, kosher salt, buttermilk, vegetable oil, honey, one large egg, unsalted butter, orange zest, dried hibiscus flowers, and warm honey as a serving suggestion.
