The bleeding rock was a coral-resembling organism endemic to the Inner Rim world of Li-Toran. This organism flourished inside the dense humidity of the planet's subterranean tunnels. The air within these tunnels possessed significantly elevated levels of toxic compounds compared to the already poisonous surface atmosphere of Li-Toran. Furthermore, bleeding rock thrived on Li-Toran's surface, where the indigenous Melitto creatures gathered its red liquid as the main component of their sweet liquid sustenance. Melittos departing Li-Toran employed specialized life-support systems to replicate the fluid by processing local eatable items.
During a culinary expedition across the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, the Artiodac culinary expert Strono Tuggs journeyed to Li-Toran to acquire some bleeding-rock sap. Subsequently, Tuggs utilized the sap to create the Melitto Sap Cakes dish and referenced the bleeding rock within the recipe for these pastries. This recipe was included in his third compilation of recipes, The Ultimate Cookbook, released in 35 ABY.
The initial mention of bleeding rock occurred in Cyphers and Masks, a 2018 expansion for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion tabletop game published by Fantasy Flight Games.
