Sap

Sap was a multicolored liquid substance generated by specific trees located throughout the galaxy. This fluid could be refined into a range of products, including food components and various other miscellaneous compounds. Upon exposure to the ambient environment, certain types of sap would harden and become solid.

During his younger years, Holshef was employed as a sap collector, gathering sap from greel-wood trees. This collected sap was subsequently processed into greel-wood syrup. Another variety of sap was produced by Tenoo trees, which Hap, a chef from the Latero species, frequently incorporated as an ingredient in his sap beverages or consumed in its hardened state as a confection. Sap also served as a component in the Nightsisters' Water of Life concoction.

Description

Sap was a liquid material extracted from different kinds of trees found all over the galaxy. It exhibited a spectrum of colors, including amber, brown, green, purple, and yellow. It was often used as a component to produce foods and drinks. Certain types of sap could be consumed in their raw, hardened form, such as those obtained from Tenoo trees, with the experience being likened to eating a candy.

History

High Republic era

Maz Kanata stuck on a massive pool of sap.

In the year 232 BBY, during the heights of the Jedi Order, a cafe called Hap's Sap Tap in the town of Kublop Springs offered a selection of sap-based drinks. The owner of the establishment, Hap, frequently created his own unique variations of sap beverages. During a visit to Tenoo, the adventurer Maz Kanata became trapped in a large pool of sap while attempting to recover her damaged jetpack. Marlaa Jinara, a Chadra-Fan, then rescued Kanata as she began to sink further into the sap.

In 228 BBY, a Duros commander from the science outpost located on Felne 6 cautioned the Jedi Knights Bell Zettifar and Burryaga Agaburry, who had traveled to the moon to investigate reports of a Drengir sighting, to avoid any physical contact with the toxic saps produced by the strik weeds.

Clone Wars

During the Clone Wars conflict, specifically in 20 BBY, a clan of Nightsisters under the leadership of Mother Talzin formulated the healing potion known as the Water of Life, which included saps as one of its components. This liquid was offered to baptize Asajj Ventress into the Nightsister order.

Imperial era

A sap refinery on Kashyyyk

In 14 BBY, during the reign of the Galactic Empire, the planet Kashyyyk was under Imperial control. The Empire had constructed a sap refinery within the planet's forests. Saw Gerrera, the leader of the Partisans, suspected that the refinery was processing the saps into a potent compound. While en route to assist in liberating the Wookiees, the Jedi Cal Kestis explored the facility, observing pools of sap collected from the wroshyr tree undergoing mixing and processing.

Holshef, a human, worked as a sap collector, gathering sap from the greel-wood trees found on the planet Lothal. He used the saps for the production of greel-wood syrups. However, by the year 4 ABY, he had transitioned into an artist and poet, using his artistic abilities to express his opposition to the Empire.
