A microjump represented a tactical maneuver involving a brief excursion into hyperspace. During the Battle of Kur, the Nihil employed their vessels' specialized Path engines to execute micro-jumps, known as Battle Paths. During the Battle of Saleucami, Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Adi Gallia utilized a microjump to materialize a short distance from Grievous's warship. The Imperial escort carrier Goliath executed a microjump in 14 BBY to confront a group of insurgents commanded by Berch Teller. Subsequently, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin commanded the Venator-class Star Destroyer Electrum to perform a microjump to the rimward edge of the Sentinel Base system to lay in wait for the same group. During the Campaign at Salient, the Imperial Star Destroyer Executrix executed a microjump to change its position in orbit around Salient II. However, microjumps had limitations; if the distance traversed was too short, a ship could overshoot its intended location, potentially ending up thousands of kilometers off course.
Microjumps encompass in-system jumps.
The concept of the microjump was initially introduced in the 2006 Legends novel, Outbound Flight. The canon debut of the microjump occurred in "Grievous Intrigue," the ninth episode of second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which premiered on January 1, 2010.
In the script for the episode "Destroy Malevolence," the fourth episode of the first season of The Clone Wars, the initial plan of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker to board the Malevolence, the flagship of Separatist General Grievous, involved a reckless microjump intended to position the Twilight mere centimeters from the ship's hull.
