Narl was a person who existed during the time of the Galactic Civil War. As a pilot, Captain Narl was employed by the GeneTech Syndicate.
Following the Battle of Yavin, Narl commanded a transport ship on behalf of the GeneTech Syndicate, a biotechnology firm with its headquarters on Talus.

In the year 1 ABY, Captain Narl received orders to move a group of scientists and a shipment of bioengineered arachnes. These arachnes were secretly being developed by the GeneTech Syndicate as bioweapons under the Parasophic Arachne initiative. Their final destination was the Imperial research facility located on Nubia. However, during the voyage, the ship suffered a malfunction in its anti-gravity and thruster control systems, causing it to crash into the side of a mountain on Talus, specifically northeast of the city of Nashal. Following the accident, Captain Narl divided the surviving crew members into two distinct groups. One group had the responsibility of tending to the injured, setting up a base camp, and figuring out how to reach Nashal. The other group was assigned the task of eliminating any of the creatures that had managed to escape from their containment. The scientists on board possessed a highly infectious virus that could destroy the entire arachne shipment if needed. However, the arachnes quickly evolved into more formidable and intelligent beings, ultimately overwhelming the survivors. The ship's crew did everything they could to safeguard the scientists and the wounded, but the arachnes claimed one or two more victims each night. Subsequently, Captain Narl distributed tracking emitters to everyone and entrusted the tracking device to his droid, CV-4T. The survivors later established another camp on their way to Nashal, while the Captain and a select few ventured out to search for the missing crew members. Captain Narl made the decision to confront the creatures directly, and the group followed a trail of blood to locate their source. The group tracked and engaged the arachnes in several mountain caves. However, the creatures had already advanced to their fifth life stage, progressing much faster than anticipated and displaying new special attack capabilities and intelligence. Eventually, the creatures trapped the survivors in a cave, and Captain Narl lost his life while attempting to protect his comrades.

Meanwhile, the Corellian Security Force noticed that Captain Narl's ship had crashed. Agent Taarna sent a spacer to investigate the crash site in the mountains and attempt to rescue any survivors. The spacer visited all of the survivors' camps and the arachnes' lairs, but only discovered dead bodies. The spacer eventually learned that Captain Narl and all of the other survivors had already been killed by the arachnes. This ultimately led to the discovery of the Parasophic Arachne program, which prompted a CorSec raid on the GeneTech Syndicate Lab.
Captain Narl was initially referenced in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game created by Sony Online Entertainment and released by LucasArts, before its shutdown on December 15, 2011. Captain Narl was incorporated into the game as part of the "Genetic Potential" story arc with the launch of "Chapter 2: The Talus Incident," on August 1, 2006.
