A paddle cactus species was discovered growing on the planet of Lok. Following the Battle of Yavin, amidst the Galactic Civil War, Nym, who commanded the Lok Revenants, instructed Ran Machado to oversee the removal of unwanted plant life from Nym's Stronghold. Consequently, Machado hired a spacer to uproot some paddle cacti, along with other Lokkian weeds, within the city. Having successfully completed this task, the spacer then utilized the excess weeds as food for the kusaks guarding the city: Runt, Bedhead, Blinky, Scarecrow, Slobbers, Troubles, Wart Face, Gargle, Ding, and Speedbump.
Paddle cacti made their debut in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This massively multiplayer online roleplaying game was created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts, before its servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. From the game's initial release, paddle cacti were randomly generated flora on Lok. Later, this plant was integrated into a quest within the revamped "Nym's Theme Park," which was launched as part of "Game Update 16," on March 23, 2010.
