Video game

Jedi Academy PC

The Jedi Knight series, which introduced Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Master, and his Padawan Jaden Korr, was a collection of video games. The term "video game" broadly refers to any interactive game software played on a video game console, or any computer game, where the primary feedback mechanism is a video display. ## Video Game Genres - First-person shooter (FPS) games are computer or video games where the player experiences the game from the perspective of a character within the game world. These games often involve firearms and other weapons for combat. Examples include Star Wars: Dark Forces and its sequels, as well as Star Wars: Republic Commando. More examples can be found in Category:First-person shooters. - Flight simulators place players in the role of a pilot, controlling either an aircraft or spacecraft against enemies or through challenging environments. Examples include the X-wing and TIE Fighter series, the Rogue Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. - Real-time strategy (RTS) games are typically computer-based, presenting the player with a top-down view of multiple units. In RTS games, players generally command groups of characters, directing their actions rather than engaging in direct combat themselves. Examples include Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Empire at War. - Role-playing games (RPGs) are video or computer games in which players control a character from a third-person perspective, making decisions that influence the game's narrative. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are examples of RPGs. They share similarities with tabletop roleplaying games. - Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are online games in which players embody characters and interact with a large number of other players. These games often feature diverse settings and numerous non-player characters (NPCs) to enhance the sense of realism. Examples are Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. ## Chronological Listing of Star Wars Games by Release Date ### 1980s #### 1982 - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the inaugural Star Wars video game, was developed by Parker Brothers and launched in 1982 for the Atari 2600 and Intellivision consoles.
