Phoca Soot

Phoca Soot, a male Twi'lek, held the position of police officer during the early years of the Galactic Empire. He resided on the planet Coruscant. Functioning as an Imperial police prefect, Soot's responsibility was to maintain order and suppress criminal activity on Level 1331. His life came to an end when Darth Vader, the Sith Lord, executed him as punishment for accepting bribes.

Biography

During the initial years of the Galactic Empire, Phoca Soot made his home on the planet Coruscant. He advanced to become an Imperial police prefect, taking charge of crime control efforts within Level 1331. However, Soot's integrity faltered, and he began to accept bribes from crime lords operating under his jurisdiction, particularly the Droid Gotra, who were allied with the Crymorah Syndicate. With Soot compromised and on the Droid Gotra's payroll, criminal activity flourished in his sector, eventually drawing the attention of Darth Vader, the Sith Lord.

In 14 BBY, Soot, along with several underworld figures from Level 1331, was summoned to the Imperial Palace. This summons was ostensibly to investigate the cause of the escalating crime rates. Moff Wilhuff Tarkin arrived on Coruscant to meet with Emperor Sheev Palpatine just as the proceedings were commencing. Tarkin accompanied Grand Vizier Mas Amedda into the courtroom, where Darth Vader, Soot, and Harus Ison, the Deputy Director of the Imperial Security Bureau, were in the middle of the proceedings. Vader, after threatening the criminals with imprisonment or death if they did not leave Coruscant, then revealed he knew the identity of the person responsible for the surge in crime. To emphasize his point, Vader turned and used the Force to crush Soot's heart, resulting in his immediate death.

Personality and traits

Soot was a male Twi'lek of slender physique, identifiable by his red lekku (head-tails). Despite his advancement to the commanding position of prefect over one of Coruscant's sectors, he succumbed to the lure of accepting payments from a crime syndicate. He did this despite the considerable risk of incurring the Emperor's wrath. Shortly before his execution of Soot, Vader commented that Soot's actions were remarkably audacious and arrogant, or at the very least, Soot failed to fully appreciate the gravity of his transgressions.
