Video game
The Jedi Knight series of video games brought us Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Master, and his student, Jaden Korr. A video game is defined as an interactive game played through software on a computer, or on a console, where the primary way the game gives feedback to the player is through a video display. ## Video Game Genres - First-person shooter (FPS) games are computer or video games where the player sees the game from the point of view of a character within the game. These often involve firearms and other weapons used in combat. Star Wars: Dark Forces and its follow-ups are examples of FPS games, as is Star Wars: Republic Commando. For further examples, check out Category:First-person shooters. - Flight simulators are a type of game that allow the player to control an aircraft or spacecraft, often against enemies or through obstacle courses. Games such as the X-wing and TIE Fighter series, the Rogue Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed all fall into this category. - Real-time strategy (RTS) games are typically computer games where the player observes and manages multiple characters from an overhead perspective. In these games, players typically direct groups of characters without engaging in direct combat themselves. Examples include Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Empire at War. - Role-playing games (RPGs) are a type of computer or video game where the player views their character from a third-person perspective and makes decisions that influence the story of the game. Games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are RPGs. They share similarities with tabletop roleplaying games. - Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are online games where many players control characters and interact with one another on a large scale. These games often feature diverse environments and numerous non-player characters (NPCs) to enhance realism. Examples are Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. ## Star Wars Games Listed by Release Date ### 1980s #### 1982 - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back holds the distinction of being the first Star Wars video game.
