Plett, originating from the planet Moltok, was a male Ho'Din who achieved the rank of Jedi Master during the concluding decades of the Galactic Republic. Known for his expertise as a botanist and ecologist, he chose to reside on the distant Outer Rim world of Belsavis, specifically in a secluded valley that became known as Plett's Well. For seventy years, he dedicated himself to his botanical pursuits, genetically adapting plants to suit the unique environmental conditions. During the Great Jedi Purge, he offered sanctuary within his compound to numerous students who had escaped the Jedi Temple.
Upon learning of the Jedi refugees' location, Emperor Palpatine deployed the Eye of Palpatine, a massive battlemoon, with orders to obliterate the refuge. However, Callista Ming and Geith Eris, two Jedi who had previously stayed on Belsavis, sabotaged the battlemoon before it could reach the planet. Consequently, Plett and the Jedi successfully repelled a smaller, secondary assault force before evacuating Belsavis and dispersing. To conceal any evidence of the Jedi's presence, Plett also erased the memories of the indigenous Mluki.
Born on Moltok, a world situated in the Outer Rim's Atrivis sector, Plett was a Ho'Din with pale-green skin. Eventually reaching a height of 2.5 meters, he underwent training within the Jedi Order during the waning years of the Galactic Republic, ultimately earning the title of Jedi Master. Around 88 BBY, drawn by its distinctive plant life, he journeyed to the obscure planet Belsavis, located in the Ninth Quadrant near the Senex sector. Belsavis was characterized by vast icy glaciers, punctuated by rift valleys warmed by volcanic activity. Plett chose to establish his residence in one of these valleys, in part due to the glacial winds and atmospheric conditions that hindered access and scanning by incoming spacecraft. He constructed a small compound featuring a four-story tower, an internal courtyard, and a laboratory, all enclosed by extensive gardens. He also transformed several caverns into greenhouses for his experiments. Beneath the compound, he created a crypt accessible through thermal vents. This valley eventually became known as Plett's Well, a name later corrupted to Plawal. Consistent with his species, Plett possessed exceptional skills as a botanist and ecologist, which he employed to genetically tailor numerous plants to the valley's unique conditions of geothermal heat, limited light, and highly acidic microclimates. Throughout his time on the planet, he engaged with the native Mluki to some extent; in later years, those Mluki residing in the Wutz and Bot-Un rifts passed down stories of his presence.

For approximately seventy years, Plett lived undisturbed on the planet, observing the ascent of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine with growing concern. Eventually, he was joined by a group of refugees from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. This group consisted of dozens of children, primarily Humans, but also included Wookiees, Bith, a Twi'lek, and an Ithorian. A few older trainees, such as Margolis Mingla, cared for the children. The refugees converted several of the Ho'Din's greenhouse caverns into living spaces, making the most of their sanctuary. The severity of their situation was eased by numerous pet pittins and mandolin music. Plett provided some training for the children, using a variety of Jedi toys to stimulate their development. He also took measures to protect the children, shielding several tunnels with mental barriers that induced fear in those who approached, and sealing several cupboards with the Force. Unfortunately for the small group, their refuge was not destined to last. Emperor Palpatine discovered their location and ordered the battlemoon known as the Eye of Palpatine to destroy it.
The battlemoon was sent to Belsavis eighteen years prior to the Battle of Yavin. However, Jedi Knights Callista Ming and Geith Eris infiltrated the battlemoon as it passed through the Moonflower Nebula. When Eris realized that stopping the battlemoon would cost him his life, he attempted to escape the station and warn Plett, but was killed in the process. Ming, who remained aboard, successfully disabled the starship at the cost of her own life, saving Plett and his charges. When the Eye failed to attack Belsavis, the Emperor ordered a small backup fighter wing of interceptors to attack. Using Y-wings, the Jedi successfully defeated this force. Following this attack, Plett and the Jedi erased the Mluki's memories of their time in the valley and fled Belsavis, eventually separating.
Within a year of his escape, Plett shared the coordinates of Belsavis with three corporations known for their social responsibility and respect for native populations: Brathflen Corporation, Galactic Exotics, and Imperial Exports. Galactic Exotics cultivated shalaman and podon orchids, while Imperial Exports grew the cash crops vine-coffee and vine-silk. Together, they enclosed the valley under domes, based on a plan developed by Plett. This investment brought significant economic growth to the Mluki.
Following the Jedi's departure, the Empire bombed Plett's Well with TIE bombers, reducing the Ho'Din's compound to ruins. The Emperor also corrupted some smugglers into deranged dark side beings, trapping them in the tunnels beneath the valley to protect the site from visitors. Among the scattered Jedi refugees that Plett sheltered, siblings Lagan and Roganda Ismaren were captured by Inquisitor Ameesa Darys. She killed Lagan and corrupted Roganda to the dark side. Another of the Jedi children, Nichos Marr, later trained as a Jedi at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4 for a brief period before succumbing to the fatal Quannot's Syndrome. Among the surviving Jedi children, knowledge of Plett's Well was suppressed, although its existence was known to the House of Organa.
After the death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor, Roganda Ismaren returned to Belsavis with her son Irek. She took shelter in Plett's house, training her son with some of Plett's toys that had survived the bombardment. Eight years later, Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo visited Belsavis, investigating rumors of the "Children of the Jedi." By this time, the Mluki had begun to recover memories of the Jedi's presence on the planet. While Solo and Organa were unable to locate Plett or the younglings, they thwarted Ismaren's attempt to form a military alliance with the powerful Ancient Houses of the Senex sector. They also recovered Plett's training tools and Jedi toys that were previously unknown to the New Jedi Order. These were later used to train a new generation of Jedi children.
By the time the Jedi refugees arrived on Belsavis, Plett was old, his head tresses having faded almost to white. He emanated calm and, although worn by struggles over the years, deep strength. He possessed a strong conscience that compelled him to shelter the Jedi children, even at risk to his own life. This also extended to concern for the native Mluki; after leaving the planet, he arranged for corporations with good reputations to learn of the location of the planet, ensuring economic development for the Mluki while protecting them from unscrupulous exploitation.
As a Jedi Master, Plett was skilled in various Jedi arts. He could manipulate individuals' memories, as he did with the entire Mluki village living within Plett's Well, causing them to forget the Jedi's presence in the valley. This effect persisted for over twelve years, preventing those Mluki from thinking about their past. The Jedi Master also created mental barriers using the Force that induced dread in those who approached. This was used to keep the Jedi children out of caverns containing the dangerous kretch insect. For greater security, Plett sealed off passages using the Force. According to Mluki legends, the Ho'Din could also speak to birds and other creatures and influence the storms that periodically swept through the valleys. Plett was also a skilled scientist; his genetic modifications to the plants in his valley thrived even decades after his departure.
Plett often wore the black cloak of Jedi mastership.

Barbara Hambly created Plett for her novel Children of the Jedi (1995). Written before the release of the prequel movies and their taboo on marriage, the "Children of the Jedi" were originally understood as spouses and children of Jedi Knights. However, The New Essential Guide to Characters (2002), published after the prequel movies, retconned the children into younglings from the Jedi Temple. A second post-prequel source makes oblique reference to Plett: HoloNet News Vol. 531 52 features a story written from Plawal Dome on Belsavis. This is unusual because the news story was written in 22 BBY when Plett was still on the planet. Children of the Jedi indicates that the name "Plett's Well" was corrupted to "Plawal" only after the Jedi had wiped the natives' memories and fled the planet.
The Ultimate Alien Anthology, which lists Plett as a common Ho'Din name, depicts an unidentified Ho'Din Jedi. Standing roughly 2.5 meters in height, with green skin and wearing a black cloak, this image aligns with the description of Plett in Children of the Jedi.
