Polis Massa Base

The Archaeological Research Council established Polis Massa Base on Polis Massa, which is a desolate planetoid located within an asteroid field. This base served as a research facility. The research team's objective was to expand their knowledge of various alien species. Their approach involved examining ancient biological materials, with the intent of utilizing Kaminoan cloning technology to revive extinct organisms. For a period of five centuries, the archaeologists conducted surveys and excavations throughout the asteroid belt, searching for traces of the Eellayin, their ancestral people. Despite the scarcity of Eellayin remnants, the ancient underground city of Wiyentaah was discovered adjacent to the base in 69 BBY. Subsequently, The Local Dig project was initiated for the purpose of excavating and cataloging the city. The base featured a primary hangar, a smaller landing area designed for inter-asteroid shuttles, a parking area and loading dock for surface vehicles, and mooring masts for securing larger ships that could not be accommodated within the main hangar. An artificial gravity generator supplied gravity to the entire base and the Local Dig site. The base housed a variety of biological and medical facilities and laboratories. It maintained a low profile to avoid attracting pirates, fearing that they might sell stolen artifacts to collectors in the Core Worlds.

Following Darth Sidious's order for the extermination of all Jedi, Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan secretly transported Yoda, the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, from Coruscant to the Polis Massa Base. Shortly after this, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi escorted the ailing and pregnant Senator Padmé Amidala to the base's medical facilities. Having lost her will to live due to the betrayal of her husband, Amidala was dying; however, she successfully gave birth to her twins, Luke and Leia, before passing away.

At some point during the Imperial Era, the Alliance to Restore the Republic utilized the facility as a strategic location until the Galactic Empire discovered their presence. Upon associating the base with rebel activities, the Empire initiated a bombardment, reducing it to ruins. Subsequently, Darth Vader was led to the base after visiting the Tomb of Padmé Amidala on Naboo. Upon discovering a Chroon-Tan B-Machine midwifery droid, his forensics droid assistant ZED-6-7 accessed the damaged memory banks. Vader watched the footage with anguish, witnessing his wife giving birth and ultimately dying.

Behind the scenes

The concept of the Rebel Alliance utilizing the base on Polis Massa was first seen in Star Wars Legends through the video game Star Wars: Battlefront II.
