Pornography

Pornography, frequently taking the form of holos, was a type of media. Certain varieties of holoporn were deemed illegal. Access was granted through both holoprojectors and mind evaporators, allowing users to witness the virtual reality woman Mermeia. Between the years of 0 ABY and 4 ABY, one could locate pornography within the black market on planets either aligned with the Rebellion or in close proximity to their bases. In the vicinity of 1.5 ABY, Attichitcuk, a Wookiee, experienced an erotic encounter with Mermeia after receiving a mind evaporator cassette from Saun Dann, a trader, as a Life Day gift.

Around 10 ABY, Kailio Entertainments, owned by the Hutt, acted as a distributor for a major holoporn industry spanning the galaxy. During that year, the Lucin Syndicate also managed an illicit holoporn operation. By 13 ABY, the Hutt Beldorion had accumulated a vast collection of Hutt holoporn and employed Liegeus Vorn, a holo faker, to re-edit it.

Description

Mermeia, as seen by Attichitcuk

Typically, pornography was produced as holos. The legality of such holoporn varied. Access to pornography featuring Mermeia, a virtual reality woman whose form was shaped by the mind of the observer, could be gained through holoprojectors. Additionally, mind evaporators, also known as proton chairs, offered access via specific cassettes, though this type of pornography did not have to involve Mermeia. Such content could include singing and dancing.

The term "smut" was also occasionally used to refer to pornography.

History

Age of the Empire

In 0 BBY, a Snivvian approached Han Solo, a smuggler, within Chalmun's Cantina located in the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine. The Snivvian offered Solo a job: delivering a shipment of holographic Hutt pornography to the Kurluvion system, claiming the system's inhabitants had a great love for Hutt holoporn. Solo declined, stating his integrity and preferring carbonite freezing over smuggling Hutt pornography.

Between 0 ABY and 4 ABY, pornographic holos were available on the black market of planets aligned with the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire, as well as those near Rebellion bases. Sometime between 0 ABY and approximately 1 ABY, a Twi'lek watched a hologram of Mermeia dancing.

Life Day

Saun Dann set up the mind evaporator for Attichitcuk.

Around 1.5 ABY, Saun Dann, a trader, presented Attichitcuk, an elderly Wookiee, with a cassette for the Life Day holiday. Dann inserted the cassette into a mind evaporator within Attichitcuk's home in Rwookrrorro, a city on Kashyyyk. After wishing the Wookiee a happy Life Day, the Human activated the mind evaporator and left Attichitcuk alone. Through the device, Attichitcuk saw Mermeia, whose form was a product of his own mind. During the ensuing erotic experience, Mermeia flirted with Attichitcuk and sang him a song expressing her desire to remain with him before disappearing into a kaleidoscopic background.

Elsewhere during that holiday, a spacer acquired a proton chair for their home and subsequently used it to hear a voice speaking to them.

Syndicates and Hutts

Around 10 ABY, Kailio Entertainments, under Hutt ownership, served as a distributor for one of the largest holoporn industries in the galaxy. Concurrently, the Lucin Syndicate operated a significant Outer Rim Territories hub for illegal holoporn production and distribution from their base on Majilop. By 13 ABY, Beldorion, the Hutt ruler of Nam Chorios, possessed a substantial library of holographic Huttese pornography and contracted Liegeus Vorn, a Human holo faker, to edit and retape the collection. That year, Vorn confided in Leia Organa Solo, the New Republic representative, revealing that even his past work ghost-writing love poems for Gamorreans hadn't instilled as much fear in him.

Behind the scenes

Pornography first appeared in The Star Wars Holiday Special.

The film The Star Wars Holiday Special, released in 1978, marked the initial appearance of pornography. Mitzie Welch, a producer, stated that Mermeia's scene in The Star Wars Holiday Special was conceived as softcore pornography designed to evade censorship. The script describes Saun Dann's actions as giving Attichitcuk "as if he is giving [Attichitcuk] the most X-rated piece of literature in the galaxy."

The Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters, authored by Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck and published by West End Games in 1990, was the first official Star Wars source to explicitly name pornography. Additionally, the comic story "Smuggler's Blues" by the Fillbach Brothers identifies it as "smut." This story appeared in the fourteenth issue of the Star Wars Tales comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, released on December 11, 2002. In reality, pornography is the depiction of sexually explicit material.
