The Providence-class Carrier, a derivative of the Providence-class Dreadnought, saw action with the Confederacy of Independent Systems' navy during the Clone Wars. At one point during that conflict, this class of carrier participated in a battle within the atmosphere of a planet, where two Republic Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunships and a pair of clone Z-95 Headhunters flew past it on opposite sides. After the Clone Wars concluded, a Providence-class Carrier was integrated into the Alliance to Restore the Republic's naval forces, fighting alongside other starships in space against the Galactic Empire's military.
As a carrier modification of the Providence-class Dreadnought, the Providence-class Carrier featured a lengthy, bulbous hull painted gray, adorned with blue stripes and the Confederacy of Independent Systems' symbol on both sides. It also kept a pointed bow, a command bridge on the top front, and a conning tower rising from the rear top of the starship.
In addition, the Providence had several sensor and communications masts, along with an interstellar communications array, positioned along its hull, and at least one Creveld-4 radial ion drive. Later, while serving with the Rebel Alliance's navy, the Providence-class Carrier gained extra engine units and a starboard wing, and its starboard hull was painted red towards the rear.
During the Clone Wars from 22 BBY to 19 BBY between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance, the Providence-class Carrier operated within the Confederacy's fleet. At some point during this period, one such carrier was involved in a battle with Republic forces in the atmosphere of a planet. While in orbit, the ship encountered two Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunships and a pair of clone Z-95 Headhunters that zipped past it on either side.
After the war ended in 19 BBY, at least one Providence-class Carrier was utilized by the Alliance to Restore the Republic's navy. Serving the Alliance, the carrier fought in the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire's military. The rebellion modified the Providence with additional engine units, a wing on its starboard side, and a red paint job on its hull, reflecting Alliance colors.
During the civil war, between 4 BBY and 5 ABY, this carrier was part of a rebel fleet that engaged in a spatial battle. The fleet included a Recusant-class light destroyer, a former Separatist Alliance warship from the Clone Wars, and at least one T-65B X-wing starfighter and a BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bomber. In this battle, the Providence-class vessel and its allies fought against several Imperial-class Star Destroyers and TIE/ln space superiority starfighters belonging to the Empire.
The Providence-class Carrier debuted as a card of the same name in the Invisible Hand Expansion Pack released in 2021 by Fantasy Flight Games for the Star Wars: Armada miniatures game.
