R2-BHD, also called Tooby, was an astromech droid of the R2 series that provided support to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In the year 0 BBY, this droid was part of Gold Squadron, which belonged to the Alliance Fleet, and typically accompanied the squadron's commander, Jon Vander, during missions. R2-BHD was stationed at the Alliance's base on the lunar body Yavin 4 just before Gold Squadron engaged in the Battle of Scarif.

During the Imperial Era, R2-BHD, an astromech droid of the R2 series, faithfully served the Alliance to Restore the Republic against the Galactic Empire. By 0 BBY, this droid had been with the Alliance for a number of years, having been assigned to the Alliance Fleet's Gold Squadron, and was regularly utilized by the squadron's various pilots, but most often was paired with Gold Leader Jon Vander in his Y-wing starfighter known as Gold One. Additionally, R2-BHD was tasked with the upkeep of Gold Squadron's Y-wing starfighters, performing diagnostics to keep them battle-ready.
R2-BHD was present in a hangar within the Great Temple on Yavin 4 when Rebel Alliance Intelligence Service operative Cassian Jeron Andor escorted the newly recruited Jyn Erso through the hangar on their way to a UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft situated outside the temple. This spacecraft was intended to transport them to the planet Jedha. Soon after this event, Gold Squadron participated in a battle against Imperial forces in the skies above the planet Scarif. R2-BHD later accompanied Vander during the Battle of Yavin, where they were shot down by Darth Vader.
R2-BHD was a dedicated and observant droid who struggled to comprehend the pessimistic nature of other droids, such as D4-R4B. It had silver plating accented with yellow, giving it a somewhat unfinished appearance. Its sensors were black. Like all R-series astromechs, it was a product of Industrial Automaton, standing at a height of 1.09 meters. R2-BHD had cranial access ports for maintenance and repair. It also possessed an electro-port access tool concealed behind a panel on its front.
R2-BHD was conceived for the anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which premiered on December 16, 2016. Before the movie's release, Disney unveiled the character in 2015 as a figure within the Star Wars: Droid Factory toy line, a set that also included three other astromechs from Rogue One. At the time of the film's initial release, it was unknown if he participated in the Battle of Yavin. This was later confirmed in 2023 with the release of a LEGO set.
